It’s common to complain about a routine, a job, or even a place, yet later feel nostalgic about it. Why do people sometimes appreciate things only after they’re gone? Have you ever looked back and missed something you once disliked?

People often miss what they once complained about because familiarity brings comfort. Even imperfect situations create routines, identity, and emotional attachment. Once they’re gone, the mind softens the negatives and remembers the stability or meaning those experiences provided.

I've always wondered this myself. I often find myself daydreaming about working at my previous jobs. Maybe it's because I was younger, even though I got a new job just a year and a half ago. I miss some of the people I worked with at previous jobs too. Maybe that plays a part too.
