Why do people busy themselves to sleep deprivation?

I really don't like to do a whole lot. If I can, I enjoy sitting on my ass playing games, like NHL Hitz 03 or GT4 or sitting on the internet getting smarter, and sometimes dumber.... That's about all I do when I'm not at work.

I don't get why people, who have the choice, will put so much on their plate and then wonder why they choked when they're trying to swallow.

I have a good friend, we've known each other all our lives. He goes to church twice (or maybe three times, I dunno) through the week. He just started more college courses for youth pastoring or something like that, and he works an odd ball job for a low wage where they keep shuffling his schedule. Since it's a 24 hour store, he sometimes works 12-8am, sometimes 2-10pm His schedule is so out of wack.

He IM'd me eariler today saying "my poor car." I had that sinking gut feeling like oooh shit...

He proceeds to tell me that he fell asleep on his way TO WORK and swerved into the guardrail on US 930 in New Haven. He seriously fucked up his car. There's a scrape the whole line of the passenger side, there's four dents, two in the front fender and 2 that I saw in the quarter panel by the wheel wells.

My question, obviously, is why do people do this to themselves? I know I worked three jobs and when it got to be too much for too little, (shitty managers, lack of sleep even though I'm used to it, and shit for pay) I gave it up. I don't need to be getting hit because I'm groggy or hitting something because I'm too tired.

I want to send myself to the grave doing something I want, like say... having a heartattack during sex, not hitting a truck head on because I dozed off at 12 am going to work.

Dude...what's wrong with you? One of these days you will come to your senses and play Forza.

Well you will be able to find Xbox's for cheap in a couple months!

As for your question though, some people just need help "getting on their feet". They do what the feel they have to to get by. I'm sure theres a more stable job out there for him somewhere that won't force these crazy schedules on him. He needs to take a step back, take a look at his life, and think things over. One person can only handle so much.

JMO though...

I know what your talking about Si. I'm the same way. Hell, I'm even worse when i'm not working. If I haven't done anything then I feel that I don't need to sleep. I'll push myself to stay awake so I can get some busy work done. Or just to stay up, like now.... :dunno

I'm tired as hell at the end of the week, and I only work 30 hours a week when I'm going to school full time. During the summer I work 40-45 a week and its rough sometimes. Especially when I'm trying to have a social life with all my friends too. We go out late and I spend all day at either school or work. However, I'd never ever let it run me down so bad that I was seriously not functioning well. I know people who overwork themselves like that and it's really not good for them. Kinda makes me sad because they are just exhausted and they don't need to be.

Wow Slo that sounds like me ..... I us to work 40 .. 8- 4 and then go out like 4 nights a week and get maybe 3 hours and then have to be at work on top of it .... I would stay with a freind who lived like 45 mins away from the job so id have to drive ....... so talk about tired ,,,,, and this was only about 5 years ago and i was about 37 years old heheheheh :D
