Try it in the daytime with some of the suggestions I gave you. Don't mess with the ISO for now and don't shoot on manual until you become very familiar with your gear. Just my 2 cents worth.

Another suggestion. In the future if you have a question please post as much info as you can. It stops everyone from trying to second guess what you have done and will help us help you.

Last but not least. It's always good to answer a question in a thread if someone asked you especially if you are the OP. Like this...

What kind of camera do you have and what lens are you using?

Ok now we are getting somewhere.

Try this on a sunny day. Not at dusk! Not in the shade and don't use the flash. I'm going to guess that you have a lens with this typed on it....f/4-5.6G. That lens does not like dark settings, it is s sucker of light and demands lots of it. That's why I said shoot the little bugger during the day. If you shoot when it's dark or sorta dark with your body set on auto it will increase the ISO to who knows how high and that's what we are trying to avoid.

Set your ISO to 200, then set the dial to S (Shutter-Priority Auto), set the shutter speed to 1/250 sec and take a shot, if that doesn't stop the action keep going higher with the shutter speed one step at a time. Your aperture will be set automatically so don't worry about that part of it for now. Follow the subject smoothly and don't jerk your camera around and pretend it's one of those flat bat things with a ball attached by a rubber band.

Now lets assume you get a few decent shots which I know you will cuz you followed my advice right. Right? Don't touch a damn thing except lower your ISO to 100. Why you axe? Becasue we wanna get rid of some of the noise. If you recall a few of us mentioned the higher ISO the more noise you get. We don't wanna see noisy pics. We wanna see a nice clear shot of that little munchkin bouncing around.

Now go shoot when the sun spits morning and show us some samples.

Any idea to tell how clear a pic is though looking at your camera?? I have D80 and until I download it to a computer I have no idea how clear it really is.

One more thing Abrianna. Have the sun to your back not in front of you. Off to either side is ok to a small degree. Preferably the face and not the butt end if you have to do it that way. :D You want your subject lit up like a Christmas Tree. Got it?

is your camera doing its stuff automatically or can you adjust the settings?

when your camera doesn't get enought light it wants to slow the shutter speed down - shutter speed is usually displayed just as a number like 1400 or 800

ISO is how sensitive your camera is being to light - the higher the ISO, the more sensitive is to light (which is why higher ISO films get ruined at the airport security scanners)

Your aperature - usually a number like f2 or f10 is how wide your lense is open to light - the smaller the apertaure (the lower the number) the more light is coming in

so increase ISO, make your aperature as low as you can make it and make you shutter speed as high as you can get it

or set your camera to use its flash or sport mode with a flash

Now you are going to confuse her. There is no need to increase the ISO if she shoots in the daylight. Why blow a good shot if you don't have to. KISS principal comes to mind unless one is very familiar with the camera which we know she isn't.

I knew this might be popcorn time :D
With the type of photography I do which is kinda what Bri's trying to do I don't fuck much with the ISO. With critters many times you only get one chance. Ya, ya I know you can play with it in Photoshop and get rid of a lot of noise but me thinks it's bestest to get it done with the camera. I know I've only taken one or two nice shots but by crackie I'm proud to say I didn't need to fuck with the ISO to do it. Did I ever tell you I hate noise in my shots. Well in case I didn't let me make one thing perfectly clear. I hate noise in my shots.
There was this one time in a dimly lit room though... :D

I must get better glasses :24:

alot of the lower nikon models dont allow you to zoom right into the image.. not sure about the D80 but the D50 didnt.. but my d300 does.. its a desgin flaw imo.. i hate to admit but canon does rule over nikon with that feature..

maybe ur apperture doesnt go wide enough.. if its was dusk and u were shooting at a sat 60th at 5.6 then ur apperture is maxed out on that lens. so if you wanted to put ur shutter speed up.. then ud have to allow more light in.. but wouldnt be able to cos ur apperture cant open any more..
thats the problem with cheap lenses.
My fixed 50mm 1.8 lens is the bizz!

I wanted a fixed 35mm lens! but the guy was like "You should replace the 18-55mm lens instead..." and I finally gave in and was like 'Damn your right' lol stupid goats, if they didn't have stomachs and have to be fed, I could buy a new lens.
