As a Muslim woman, I believe that what that Muslim did was wrong. People make fun of anything, for heavens sake, there are jokes about the Prophet Jesus all over and we consider him to be a messenger of God as well. The best way for that Muslim man to have handled that situation would be to have asked the man politely to stop wearing that costume or to report it to the authorities if it really offended him that much. He did wrong by attacking that Atheist man, even if he was making fun of the Prophet Muhammad, he had no right to attack him. He's a crazy extremist, definitely NOT an exemplary Muslim.

The problem is, people tend to use Muslim to refer to someone who practices Islam and someone who lives in the Middle East, which isn't correct. That's probably what confuses you. It's a pretty common mistake to use words like "muslim" and "jew" to refer to both race and religion. Happens a lot.

The man who went after the atheist didn't handle the situation correctly, in my opinion. I don't think judges should lecture people on what they believe or don't believe. But I also think atheists shouldn't disrespect religion either. From what I have read militant atheists didn't really become as vocal until after the 9/11 attacks. It seems this event sparked some kind of a social conscience awareness. Nothing wrong with that. I think people should be aware of religious extremists but I don't think challenging the existence of God or completely trashing religion is the way to go about it. It would seem to me that exposing hypocrisy in religion would be the best thing. Everyone should examine their beliefs and have a social conscience but should also respect what others believe. Freedom of religion or freedom to have no religion is a great thing. Disrespecting and downing people for their beliefs only creates division and makes enemies out of people.

I'd actually argue that Christianity brought a lot of corrosive things into modernity.

You may find this hard to believe, but our founding fathers didn't push Christianity in the founding government, and some famous "founding fathers" who signed the declaration of independence didn't believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God.

Heck, it was a feat in itself that John F Kennedy got elected to be the president as many thought he didn't have a chance because he was catholic. Point being, not even Christians can get along.

I still remember Tipper Gore complaining about Van Halen's "Running With the Devil" LMFAO Hey, how about lets blame it all on rock and roll baby!

For the record, I consider myself a Christian, however, I also believe that my beliefs have no place on the taxpayers dime.
