Authority figures can mediate disputes or inflame tensions. How much influence do leaders have over followers’ actions? Can responsible leadership shift communities from division toward coexistence?

Religious leaders are influential because they shape beliefs, values, and group identity. In peaceful contexts, they can promote dialogue, forgiveness, and unity. But in tense situations, their authority can also be used to justify division or mobilize followers.

It depends on their position on other religions. Recently Pope Leo issued statement against systematic killing of Muslim population, which was well appreciated.
