Who likes crabs?

Q: What is the yellow stuff inside a cooked crab? Some people call it "mustard." Is it fat?
A: Contrary to popular belief, the "mustard" (or the "green gland" or "tomalley") is not fat, it's actually the crab's hepatopancreas, a main component of the crab's digestive system.
The hepatopancreas is a gland made up of very small branched tubes (ramified tubules) located on both sides of the mid-gut in the main body cavity directly under the top shell and functions as both liver and pancreas. It is involved in producing digestive enzymes and is responsible for filtering impurities from the crab's blood.
The "mustard" has a strong taste and is eaten by many people who consider it a delicacy.

I'm not much on the king crabs.. I'd rather blue crabs.

I agree, king crab shells are WAY too hard to break open .. the shell is SO fucking thick! To hard to crack, usually end sup hurting my hand before I'm done.

I prefer Dungeness legs myself .. thinner easier to split shells, but still fat legs. YUM YUM!

I can eat like 5 lbs of crab legs .. meaning 5 lbs of meat, not 5lbs cummulative LOL I even eat the meat out of the white part that holds the legs together.

I've never had fresh crab... Seems like an aweful lotta work for such little meat. I love me lobster alot more.

if you learn to eat them correctly .. you get a lot of meat at once .. if you don't shred it up like a spaz while trying to get it out of the shell lol.

Crablegs are WAY too much work...

That's what I think too, Juli. But if it was a bunch of friends, and there was some other food to eat so starvation wouldn't take over, it'd be a lot of fun to crack some shells together.

no...it's not a good combination, me + anything to have to crack and dig out. I slop shit all over the place. Pieces of crab flying off my plate into the air...not pretty!
