"Where's the fire?"

Yesterday afternoon I walked out to our road to check my mail. A truck comes driving down our private road a bit fast with his flashers on. I said, "Where's the fire?" I turn and watch the truck go on down the road and there i see "THE FIRE!" Seems one of my neighbors who has a large Kudzu patch at the edge of his property decided yesterday was a good day to burn it. The fire was fed by a healthy breeze and got out of hand. Kicker is this area has been under a no burn order from the National Weather Service for almost 2 weeks. The local volunteer fire department did get it under control but it took a while.

I have a MASSIVE burn pile out back. I'm waiting for some december rainy weather to light it, but even then I'm thinking about having the local fire department come by just so I don't make the news.

I keep a burnpile of grass clippings and the like I burn a few times a year but I am real careful about windy & low humidity conditions. I have had a fire get away from me before and it is scary. Fortunately for mine I was able to get ahead of it and start a backfire.

we have had several bad fires around here because of this. my dad's burn pile is stacking up but they cant do anything about it now! hoping that the winter is wet, not windy, and cold so they can get it taken care of.

i don't get why people don't just till it into the ground or mulch it.... fires just cause environmental issues no matter the size.:thumbdown And know what firemen and woman say about it, it should be banned out right. I can't tell you how many calls my brother in-law has been called out to because of stupid people thinking that burning is the way to go.
