Are you doing it for a religious reward, to relieve guilt, or for what?

What are your reasons for wanting to do the right thing?

I do the moral thing for all the reasons you mentioned, especially for religious gifts. Because in my religious belief as a Muslim there will be life again after death. So, I have to do a lot of good as a provision for life after death.

People may choose to do the correct thing for a variety of reasons, such as personal ideals, moral principles, society conventions, legal requirements, or empathy for others. Some people may also feel a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction from doing what they believe is right, or an urge to prevent unpleasant repercussions from doing anything wrong.

Religion is a consideration but I always believed you should treat others as you wish to be treated. Morals are a standard.

….we all have our own ‘moral guide or moral compass’….our own life rules as it were…and in following those, they’re always guiding our actions and reactions etc…so there is no reason as such, for me anyway…I always try to be true to who I am and that’s the only reason…I try to consider different/all perspectives of things and how it all is and feels for others…but most/many of us do that, I would say….

Having good morals is a great way to live life and build relationships. I believe having good morals can bring out the qualities in you as a human being and I feel like I am more acceptably justified through my own eyes and the eyes of society.

Yes doing the moral things is for our own good. you don't have to do it to get validation or be rewarded it is for your own good

Doing the moral thing often involves making decisions based on values like honesty, fairness, and compassion, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. It can be challenging because it requires aligning your actions with what feels right rather than what’s easiest or most beneficial in the short term.

For me doing what is morally right is no longer about religion, but it is something that is now part of me, more like a lifestyle.

I am not a moralist by any means, but I do the right thing according to what I am born to do, according to my thoughts and according to whoever is in front of me, because I am also not a bad person nor am I interested in harming anyone, but if I have to do the "wrong" thing for a nefarious person who has hurt me, I do it without hesitation as long as it does not go against my own morals.
