In February, Justin Carter was playing “League of Legends” — an online, multiplayer fantasy game — when another player wrote a comment calling him insane. Carter’s response, which he now deeply regrets, was intended as joke.

“He replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and jk,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement to a local news channel.

The statements “lol” and “jk” — meaning “laughing out loud” and “just kidding” — indicate that Justin’s statement was entirely sarcastic, said his father.

In light of recent events it would be like saying you have a something illegal while boarding an aircraft or at security of an airport.

Kids security is not something to take lightly, just as passenger safety.

If the lady had not called the authorities and something had happened, who would they be blaming today ? They would be all over how he was crying for help but no one listened. Well lesson learned that some people do watch, listen and act..

As for the LOL and JK many people looking for help add that at the end when reality kicks in they may have gone to far and fear strikes them.

There are some jokes that are just unacceptable in any context.

Conspiring to commit a crime requires more than just saying it.
Example if someone said they were going to kill thier wife...thats not conspiring in itself..Buying a pistiol however is making a step towards that goal.

So even without the JK and LOL he had done nothing wrong...other than raise suspicions.

It appears as if they put him in a tank where he has been getting abused as well.

Carter has been beaten up multiple times while in jail in Comal County, Texas, according to NPR. He is now on suicide watch.

“This was his first incarceration, his first charge, and without getting into the really nasty details, he has had concussions, he has had black eyes,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement.

Carter also said his son has become depressed about his situation, has spent time in solitary confinement and has been moved out of fear that he might hurt himself.

Justin Carter was arrested last February for making a sarcastic, threatening remark against a school after being provoked by another player in League of Legends, an online video game. Carter followed his remark with “lol” and “jk,” signalling that it was not a serious threat. Nevertheless, Texas authorities have charged him with making threats of a terrorist nature, and set his bail at $500,000.

His life is ruined regardless of the outcome of his case. Teens do some dumb stuff at times. Does not seem that criminal if he did nothing else as though he was preparing to do something.

Yes,
A 19 year old with a sick sense of humor....who at that time stated it was humor.
He merely took a well known event for a model...could have been any incident that made news.
If this is all it takes to get locked up our system is deteriorating rapidly.
The is no conspiracy to commit a crime....nor a credible threat been made as the author clearly stated it was humor.

Here is what is going on:
Cases like this merely help them build the stats they need to have/ to warrant having the ability to do it to begin with.
At the end of the year this will be "500 more lives saved" and another arrest made....Building stats to prop its perceived need.

Sad...no where did this guy threaten anyone or any group.
