We'd always open them Xmas morning. Now that my brother and I are older, we generally don't get presents - just gift cards since my parents no longer know what we'd want, and they usually hand them to us either xmas eve or morning.

It is our family tradition to eat dinner together on Christmas Eve December 24 then when the clock reach its time to 12 o'clock midnight and that is Christmas day already all of us gather together besides our Christmas tree to open our own gifts given by each and one of us in the whole family and its fun and we are all happy as we saw whatever gifts we had received and what is important is the thought that counts of remembering each other during that special occasion.

About 7AM cause the kids get up and go wild.
The adults usually get up early around 5 to read the paper and eat and have coffee.
We all cuddle up in one room and designate one child to get the gift out from the tree an adult to see who its for and another child to deliver the gifts, making sure that no one person gets all their gifts at once.
I always take the pictures cause I'm the gadget guy and am the only that knows when my finger is in front of the lens.
My Dad always takes all the torn Christmas paper and wrappings and puts them in a bag.
My Dad also takes a picture of all the women's butts when they are bent over as a gag when we go to look at the pics.

When i was young and living in Mexico we had the big gathering at grammas house - Everyone would gather there for xmas eve and we would do dinner, read the rosary and a whole bunch of mexican xmas stuff! Starting december 12th (Vigrin of Guadalupe's birthday) the families would begin bringing presents to my grandmothers house and at the turn of midnight on 12/24, my sister (oldest grandkid in the family) would start gathering everyone and start handing out presents.

On top of that each family would keep one or two presents at home to give to their kids just as a formality - Everyone knew the big presents were coming to gramma's house!

My grandmother passed away almost 7 years ago and since then the family has kind of broken up into smaller groups... for a while while i was married the place to celebrate was my house! Of course thins have changed over the last year and the family has gotten a bit smaller but the good times are still there, just with a more close-knit family than before!

We would always open up our presents on Christmas day. There wasn't any opening one up early or staying up until midnight. The whole opening on Christmas day just makes everything so exciting.
