If you're talking about Latin America, that was a one or the over the edge here, but this e gone a little over the edge here, but it was either stop the cold war on every front, including stopping the soviet backed nations in Latin America, or hope for the best. Plus, Reagan probably didn't know about the huge amount of mass murder.
Besides, taking down the USSR makes up for almost everything. He could have taken every dollar in the world bank and put it on the moon for alien overlords, as long as he got rid of the soviet union, a lot of stuff can be forgotten.

So because he aided the US in destroying the USSR, what he did with the deals he cut for weapons sales to the Contras was simply okay?

The USSR took down itself, we could have done nothing and the Soviet Union still would have imploded on itself. Plus, you're overlooking the fact that Reagan knew he was funding terrorist organization who were famous for mass killings.

That's an interesting take. In the end, I ultimately agree with you because the Socialist movement doesn't allow for human nature, but WHEN do you think the Soviets would have fallen, and how much further would their reach have gone had we not stopped them?

With no American intervention, the Red's would very likely have annexed your beloved EU, and trudged along taking over nations for years. When the world called itself Red, then the slow decay would begin in earnest.

The Russians wouldn't have gotten past all the European nations, the Russians didn't have what it takes to conquer the entire continent if you look at their stasis at that point in time with monetary needs. Plus, they wouldn't have done that anyways and risk a world war.

That's a fair enough point. I was in fact more refering more to Communism. In my defense though, the line between the two is pretty fuzy, and it moves around a lot.
