In both videos the comedian/speaker, the fake-president, and the so-called religious lady take the Bible out of context and/or do not present the whole picture/message of the Word.

I would love to talk about this subject in more detail but am sorry to say that I will not be able to due to the situation that arose the last time I was asked a question regarding the Bible's written Word. I took the time to answer respectfully, including historical, cultural, and the who, what, where, when, and why's of the Biblical worldview concerning the issue in question and I was then attacked. I was baited into thinking that the poster actually wanted to understand what I was saying and the studies I had done, when that could not have been further from the truth. I won't make the mistake of doing that again. No offense to you Tim.Really??? then all the other passages are taken out of context too? Why is it that every time a passage is used to show Christian hypocrisy, it's said to be taken out of context? Would you be so kind as to show me how the bible condemns homosexuality? In context of course.
Bingo GP.I like the fact that the speaker's video had 24 different breaks in it, cleverly edited no doubt.
I also like the fact that it's very unlikely that Martin Sheen has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible, and yet his presidential character even at best probably cherry picks scripture so that it can come out on YouTube and uninformed people can latch on to it and say, "Martin Sheen is the greatest president in history because he can recite lines that are arranged so that he absolutely OWNS a fake Bible thumper! HIP HIP, HOORAY!!!"
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."
How do you understand what the Bible says there then?

I love to hear you say that. I should make it my new sig. [/irony]You are absolutely correct on Martin Sheen...
I suppose then that Wil E. Coyote must be theHe was acting in a role for a TV show. Those lines were written for him by a staff of writers for the show... your missing the point of the post. It was a well thought out and presented point that his character made. It wouldn't have mattered if Wile Coyote made it, it's the message that matters.
That's harsh, but true unfortunately. And not applicable to the Bible. And there is no need to clarify your stance Grace. I spent many years learning how the bible can be twisted and molded to fit into what ever agenda or topic that is on the table. Given enough time and mindless scholars, you can turn any work of fiction into a religion provided you can use phrases like, "that was taken out of context" or "that was the old law"
This requires a huge leap of faith, giving up that oneself knows it all and that there are some things that cannot be seen but still believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, yet still believe.Unless you speak directly to the author of any book, you Cannot know what the true context of any book. You can speculate all you want, but you will never truly know. So when you speak of "context" you are talking about how you interpret the bible, or how you were taught to interpret the bible, not about the true intention of the author since he is no longer here to talk about it.
I love to hear you say that. I should make it my new sig. [/irony]
I suppose then that Wil E. Coyote must be the Greatest. President. Ever. Therefore, Martin Sheen is a Biblical scholar and the Roadrunner is his homosexual, pillow biting bitch.
I'm not missing the point of the post. There is no point of the post/clip because it's fiction. Oh, I know what you're 'trying to say' with the clip, but when you say "It was a well thought out and presented point that his character made." you are incorrect. It was not a well thought out and presented point. It was a well-written and well acted line in a TV drama. It had no point unless you're a kool-aid drinker that believes that spit works as well as it did for Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" or that Jodie Foster went through a wormhole in "Contact."
And I know you're smarter than that.
That's harsh

I knew there was no need to clarify my stance, it would have been a waste of time in the context of this thread just like it was in the last one, which is another reason why I didn't bother to go into more detail.there is no need to clarify your stance Grace.
And I will stand by my point that it is a well-written and well acted scene from a ficticious TV drama and therefore holds as much weight as solid social commentary as the "Tom and Jerry 2008" ticket platform.I still stand beside it being a good point. Hell, not just a good point, but hitting it out of the park.
Nothing is wrong with homosexuality. Its a totally, and completely natural phenomenon found throughout nature and species.
Nope, no struggle.Care to give any examples? I think you'll struggle.
