So January 1997, what was happening in your life and what sort of fashions were you wearing?

I was 7 and in Year 2 at school. I had just moved house and started at a new school. I liked reading about the Tudors, drawing pictures of the Tudors (especially Anne Boleyn getting her head cut off) and watching X-men, Spiderman, Power Rangers and Time Team. When I grew up I wanted to be an archaeologist or a Spice Girl.

I wore a blue gingham school dress, a royal blue cardi and red school shoes. When not at school I practically lived in leggings with garish patterns and various T-shirts and sweatshirts.

I was in my junior year of college. I was living on B Hall on the 5th floor of Langdale Hall at Valdosta State University w/ my roommate Heidi (who I'm still in touch w/ to this day). Every night we would fall asleep either listening to scores from musicals OR Scooby Doo (I know, odd combination). I was wearing things like floral skirts w/ a blue jean vest attached to it and birkenstocks (oh hell, I might even still have that dress somewhere).

I was involved in the Baptist Student Union, Residence Life Judicial Committee (I got to kick people out of the dorms, LOL), and sometimes subbed for Student Government Association (they dealt w/ expelling students and so on). It was nothing for me to leave my dorm room at 9 in the morning and not get back in until after midnight.

Christ, how do you remember all that? 1997, I would have been.... eight years old, I think. I don't remember very much about that time period at all haha :)

Like you said about school clothes though, I know I had the red versions - gingham dress, bright red cardigan, shoes from Clarks...

My mum has kept all my old school books, my diary from 1997-1999 and my drawings. It's quite embarrassing.

I was living in upstate NY and just met one of my better kayaking buds. Life was good, kayaking during the summer and winter on the Black, Moose and Hudson and finding creeks up in Lake Placid. Snowboarding in the winter not having to drive hours for a decent slope. Had a VW Gold with no air conditioning because you didn't need it (unlike NC LOL). Don't know what fashion was because during the summer I always wore shorts and sandals and in the winter you just put a lot of clothing on. Also first complete year of not having a drink.

January 97...I was in year 5 at school (10 years old), I had a fairly good attendance record, had some friends, struggled with maths mainly (which is ironic considering I'm amazing at it now) but excelled in English (especially creative writing). I was watching stuff like Power Rangers, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry and football. I was mainly wearing jeans and t shirts when not at school, so basic stuff. My uniform was grey trousers, white shirt, tie and a grey jumper. We had a teacher who didn't have a TV and at the time we couldn't fathom that, it's because she was opposed to paying the TV license.

15 years later, still living in the same house. I have the same wife and 2 kids. Not much has changed except I moved my office home and my kids grew up. January of 1997 I was 37. Biggest difference is I am far more dependent on my computers. I had a new truck I had just gotten, I don't have it anymore.

in jan '97...wow seems like a lifetime ago now, however i was in the GTA, Ontario. I was 23 and life was good! I was working 4-5 days a week and clubbing/ raves Tues, Thurs, Fridays and Saturday nights. I'd just come back from living in the Rockies in Alberta. Little did i know '97 would be the year that changed my life forever and that January would be one of the last of my free-spirit wild days.

In 1997 I was repeating 1st grade for the second time. The first time around, I never did any schoolwork or paid attention. I didn't too much better the second time around. It wasn't until a year later when I started public school that things turned around. Something clicked and I started doing really well. Since I originally went to private school, I had to take two buses to school. One bus picked me up on my road and took me to the public elementary school. Then I would wait in this little side lobby with a small group of kids until another bus took us to the private school. We always got in trouble for running around the gymnasium and shit. After school I took 2 busses to the house of this lady who watched a group of kids after school. We did our homework, played outside, watched tv, played video games etc. It was a fun time. I watched lots of Disney Channel and Cartoon Network.

January 1997, I was 10 but just into my 11th year. I was in primary 7 at school. I would be starting high school that summer. I was even more of a tomboy than I am now, I wouldnt be seen dead in a dress or skirt. I always had on tracksuit bottoms and tshirts or jumpers (sweaters). I was always playing outdoors, I grew up in a smallish village (its now significantly larger) and all my friends lives in the middle to upper parts, so we all were allowed to go as we pleased between these parts and our parents knew if we didnt appear home for a while, we wouldnt be far away. That or they would phone our classmates parents and ask if we were anywhere to be seen.

I rode my bike pretty much everywhere, when I didnt have my bike I'd run alongside them on bikes or get a backie from a mate. I played with the boys more than girls. The girls were too wussy. Lol. It was all good.

1997, I was driving a tank truck, picking milk up from area dairy farms. Typically, I wore blue jeans, t-shirts, work boots, and appropriate outer wear for the weather of the day. I had been married for 6 years, I was 36 years old. It was a very rough winter up here with a blizzard every week making the rural roads a true adventure. I got caught in whiteouts many times.

oh shit, if i could clesrly remember it all, i could probably write a fucking book on it.. LOL

Lets see:

1997
1. I had graduated from high school a yr and a half before.. I am December child so i was usually a yr behind people my age by default :|
2. I met my first serious GF. Cant say I've kept in touch with her but the last time i chatted with her was probably 2-3 yrs ago i think...
3. I had bought my first car a 1990 red Honda civic hatchback
4. I was 3 years into my long tenure working in Jason's Deli (as lame as it sounds it was the most fun I've had at any job)
5. My interests were: Skateboarding (i was pretty damn good at it too :( ) beer and girls :D
6. I was planning on either going to chef school or becoming an X-ray technician - I almost went to chef school but opted for graphic design in the end
7. My music interests were foo fighters, sonic youth, Pennywise, face to face, Rancid, social distortion, Soundgarden, Rage against the machine, basically anything from skate punk to mainstream rock - honestly a damn good time for independent music!
8. Clothing: anything baggy! element, formula one, Girl skateboard clothing "as in the brand" were my favorite! We had this small and legendary little skate/surf house here in Houston and it was located across the street from my high school. I would save all of my week's lunch money and buy me a shirt every Friday

dang! All that brings back memories lol
