What makes a thread worth responding to?

I don't generally respond to many threads simply because I don't feel as though I have something worthwhile to contribute to the conversation. By the time I get to a thread that's interesting to me, someone has more likely than not already said what I was thinking of saying, so there's not much point in reiterating it or giving a what she said smiley. So I just read and go on my way.

I don't post nearly as much as I used to around here. I seem to be a thread killer a lot of the time in my past experiences.

haha, yeah. Life was hectic with school ending and the holidays are always insane for us (three families all vying for as much time as possible. lol) so hopefully after the first of the year I'll be back.

If it's one of my hot-button issues I'll even post in P&D (but I can count on one hand the number of threads I've posted in in P&D and haven't had to unsubscribe from). OR if I see something has a lot of views/replies I'll go look at it to see why people find it so interesting.

I find that I generally look and see who has already posted in a thread to determine whether or not I reply.

After a group of people get to know one another, I think one of the biggest factors is who started the thread. People who are deemed stupid or weird, or other negative things, are largely ignored. Forums get pretty high-schoolish in time that way. You have the wildly popular members to whom everybody wants to post, then, you have the not at all popular ones to whom no one wants to post, no matter the content of the posts.
It's not always the case. Some people actually do post stuff that's not worth responding to. However, that's a matter of opinion.
