Re: Strangest thing you ever ate.

sushi is cooked. shashimi is raw. Sushi just means literally fish and rice....

Sushi (すし、寿司, 鮨, 鮓, 寿斗, 寿し, 壽司?) is a Japanese dish consisting of cooked vinegared rice which is commonly topped with other ingredients, such as fish or other seafood,[1] or put into rolls. Sliced raw fish by itself is called sashimi, as distinct from sushi. Sushi that is served rolled inside or around nori, dried and pressed sheets of seaweed, is makizushi. Toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu is inarizushi. A bowl of sushi rice with toppings scattered over it is called chirashizushi.

Sushi can contain cooked or raw fish

Re: Strangest thing you ever ate.

Spent a few days in the Survival training camp when in the Army.

Didn't go through SER training (I'm not THAT crazy) but I was in support for a few days.

Got to sample the local delicacies... mainly snake and bugs.

I did not know there was cooked Sushi, learn something new every day. I'm kind of a hypocrit in that caviar is raw but, for some reason that I like. Yes it is expensive I've only had it on cruises, as was the octupus.

If you've eaten caviars b4 then it would be easier transition to sushi like this one. It's made of Salmon Roe wrapped in seaweed ;)

You're brave to have sampled snakes. I am so afraid of snakes that I can't even look at it on pics medo_musica.gif

Prolly wasabi on a girl scout cookie. =)

Did you enjoy it? :p

I like sushi but I can never enjoy wasabi due to it's effect on my sinuses....It's just way too strong a spice for me. I wonder how it is on a cookie wonder.gif

It was one of those kinds with the shortbread and the chocolate on the back. Surprisingly enough, it was pretty tasty.

Something else I have eaten that would rival that would prolly be a peanut butter and pepperoni sandwich.

I've had the pleasure (and dis-pleasure) in some cases of visiting many places around the world.

I like to try strange foods. I've eaten worms, snakes, spiders, etc.

However, probably the weirdest thing I have eaten, and enjoyed is.....

Gaejang-gu.

What's that you ask? It's just soup.........with DOG meat as the primary ingredient.

It's delicious, btw. :D

What have you tried that is weird? exotic? strange? that you enjoyed?

Up to now nothing. :ninja
In Germany there's a saying (translated word by word): The farmer doesn't eat what the farmer doesn't know.
According to this, I'm a farmer. :D

I dunno
My best friend/roommate ate duck anus while in iraq though. He didn't want to and became very sick from it as you can imagine

Sea Urchin.

I'd say calamari, but it doesn't seem to be so strange or exotic anymore.

Ewww to most of those ^!

I've eaten ants. Not on purpose, when I was about 14 we had cereal called Choc Dot Crispies (yum! haven't seen them for years) They were like a wheaties flake with, yep, choc dots on them. At the time we had a plague of ants, and choc dots and ants look pretty similar. I devoured a bowl full and when my brother poured his out it was riddled with ants! I didn't notice any difference in the flavour. But I kinda have a real sweet tooth now...
