Mine was tonight.

My best friend called and said she was coming by to pick me up. I could tell she was upset about something, so I told her I'd be ready. When I got into the car, she looked at me with tears running down her face, torn to pieces, and told me she'd just found out her boyfriend was cheating on her... again.

She started driving around, and told me the full story. When she was finished, she said, "And I just can't bring myself to be around or talk to anybody at all. I want to be all alone and not have to look at another soul right now."

Of course, I felt awkward, and asked her, "Well, would you like to take me home? That way you can be alone?"

She said, "No, Lou. I wasn't talking about you. You're a part of me, so you don't count as being another person. I can't get through this without knowing you're close by. I need your light."

I almost cried.

So, what's the best, most sincere, most soul touching compliment you've ever been given?

Once I was talking to this guy on the bus, and all of a sudden he said "Hey I think there is something in your eye" he put his hand on my chin and got really close to my face to look, and then he said "...Oh, it was just a sparkle."

God I was putty to him for a while lol

Yeah, that would be enough to melt me into a puddle on the floor too. Isn't it amazing how something like that can stick with you and make you smile, even a long time after it happens?

I don't know if it qualifies as a compliment but I do have a story similar in that somebody confided in me.

A girl who I had never met fell apart at a party at my sisters place 25 or so years ago. She had a bad split up with a boyfriend and I have no idea how this happened but we went out to my car and talked for at least 2 hours.

I guess it was a compliment she would confide in me.

every time some one says they like me it makes me feel good.

i don't trust most compliments - i kind of feel like they are fake.

the best most memorable compliment is when this guy who was my friend told me i was really his best friend. stupid me didn't know what to say. i meant to say "yeah you too" but it felt like it was going to come out insincere so I didn't say anything. I was in shock because I had felt like he was my best friend, but he had so many friends and so many more cooler people to be his friend, so I didn't think I was his best friend.

He died a week later and I never got to tell him, but I know and will always know I was a good friend to him. It still makes me really sad to think he never knew he was my best friend too.

On my birthday that year I had gone to his house and just sat there and talked to him all night. I didn't even tell him it was my birthday. It was one of my best birthdays.

Really lame in comparison, but when someone tells me I'm funny or that I amuse them.

Edit: I guess those would be my favorites... Most memorable... hmm.

OH! In high school, I was having a lot of issues with all sorts of things. My mom and I were in the kitchen cooking, talking about it. She stopped what she was doing, looked at me and told me how it amazed her that no matter what happened to me or what was said to or about me, I just let it all roll of my back. She said I was strong, and that she admired that.

A compliment that sticks out in my mind was one that was never spoken. Last summer at Canadian Nationals I was the person that brought Bey Ambition down to the show ring for his class and then brought him back to his stall after he placed second. This spoke volumes about how the people I work for feel about me as a groom. Bey Ambition was a 3 year old stud colt and for those of you who don't know horses, stallions tend to be hard to handle and you really don't want your prize stallion running around loose because he got away from someone who doesn't know what they're doing. So, the fact that they let me handle him at the show when he was espeically wound up served as a validation of sorts of my horsemanship skills. :)

after many years of working at the bank, a senior vice president was at my going away party and said ..."if we had more people like Patrick in the world, it would be a great place....we may not make a lot of money, but it would be a better place"

I know I've been complimented a lot, and a lot lately. But I know there have been some meaningful ones from ages ago, but I can't recall them. Probably a good thing, it was from a past relationship.
