Longer time = bigger :eek = better :ninja

That just says where it comes from - nothing at all about what it means.

He misunderstood, he learned English off the interwebz.

Kelvin sure like copy and paste, he cant express an opinion because that's illegal where he lives.

Or that. :24:

Are all of you actually sure that you're the ones interpreting this right?

Himmelfarb or whatever her name was, was one right wing nutter. She'd probably happily see America turn into a despotism, as long as people didn't have sex. Or something else unGodly like chew gum, I can see why Kelvin identifies with her.

Gordon Brown is a big fan of her, apparently. Says a lot.

Yea, one day when I was bored at work, and happened to notice Kelvin's signature, I read up on this lady. She's a nutcase.

The thing is, you could fill in lots of words in place of "liberty" in the quote and it would make perfect sense.

As it seems more on topic here, I moved this from another thread Kelvin posted, but it is based on my question to him regarding his signature "Absolute Liberty, corrupts absolutely".

I respect you intepretation but I stand by mine.

That's probably what they teach kids in Singapore to keep them in line. :) In actuality, Liberty= the freedom to act and the absence of coercion. And that sounds really terrible to you? Singapore fails the liberty sniff test miserably. I just can't figure out why you have focused on this saying "absolute liberty corrupts absolutely." First of all did someone actually say that with a straight face?

And is this just a snappy plagiarized slogan or does the term "absolute liberty" mean something in particular to you? Then maybe you can enlighten me why a state of absolute liberty is corrupting? Oh, I see as opposed to the popular saying in Singapore: "Keep'm in chains for their own good." ;)

If it's not blocked by your internet filters, see this Wikipedia Liberty link:
John Stuart Mill, in his work, On Liberty, was the first to recognize the difference between liberty as the freedom to act and liberty as the absence of coercion.[1] In his book, Two Concepts of Liberty, Isaiah Berlin formally framed the differences between these two perspectives as the distinction between two opposite concepts of liberty: positive liberty and negative liberty. The latter designates a negative condition in which an individual is protected from tyranny and the arbitrary exercise of authority, while the former refers to having the means or opportunity, rather than the lack of restraint, to do things.
Gee, tyranny and arbitrary exercise of authority. As a Singapore resident please tell us all about that. :D
