My own opinion? I would say that they do have a great contestants so far, great voices and some have even amazing stories. But I find these kind of shows not really meant to look plainly for a great singer but these are more of business and publicity. Especially the audition part, it’s just there to plainly entertain and to gather more audience for the show to be more interesting and let it be more successful.

I pretty much don't like them at all. I watched American Idol until Chris Daughtry got sent home. That was ridiculous. I do think some decent talent can come out if it, but I kind of feel that a true musical artist should pay their dues like in the 'olden' days. I do watch The Voice occasionally though. I like the blind auditions because it's only going by their voice and not what they look like at that point in the show. But all in all, not a fan of these kind of shows.

I usually love the auditions and think many are very talented. However when we get to live shows I think everyone sucks and stop watching. American Idol was the only show I thought contestants were actually good, but now it never has anyone good.

I believe the contestants are great most of the times, but those reality shows are mostly "prefabricated" contests. Sometimes I feel like the whole season is made in a weekend and then breaking down in pieces, what means they already know who will win the contest and are simply fooling us to sell their advertising space.

The saddest part of those contests is that all those contestants, many of them real artists with potential, go with an empty promise because they may release a recording with the winners, but ultimately I don't see how they are really supporting the careers of those who already won.

I agree I think it's basically bogus.

I think they're a very smart money maker. What's more perfect than getting the world to create the next big cash machine themselves. Very very smart. I don't watch them.

Honestly, reality singing contests have become a bit of a mixed bag. Some still manage to spotlight raw talent and give real opportunities, The Voice and American Idol had some great moments. But nowadays, it sometimes feels more about drama and ratings than actual artistry. The stories can feel scripted, and not every winner goes on to have a real music career.
