But for your racist opinions, just share whatever you know about India. Since most of the members of this forum are from the West, it will be interesting to know what you know of my country...

Aren't we jump to conclusions using the word racist and not even know the people on here?

i was just taking a precautionary measure. I said it coz in all the sites, where people around the world comment, those comments derogate to dirty racist and explicit comments. (Check out any youtube video comments or other forums)..

Geologically, India is considered to be a subcontinent of Asia. While Pangaea was around, it was not part of the Asian landmass currently. If memory serves me, India was connected to Australia/Antarctica (believed to be a desert at the time). It has a mountainess terrain, especillay the Ghats (sp?) on the sides of the peninsula. Northern India also has contact with the Himalaya Moutains. It also has a few rivers, which most of the more urbanized populas are located on or near, but this is true of most civilzations. It is also in contact with the Bay of Bengal.

It is once of the most ancient socities in the world, behind China. I specifically remember the importace of three reigns/rulers, the Maurya, Kashmir, and some really crazying spelling one like Vijasomething. India is also strongly guided by past tradition, as high lighted by the use of the caste system, which is typically viewed very negitivly by the west. If I recall correctly, you have untouchables, a lower/peasant working class, a merchant class, and the religious/ruling class at the top. I think there is one more portion that I am leaving out. The caste system recently came underfire and made the associated world press when people bombed an upper class portion of Mumbai. India also has access to a more modernized technology. It is believed by some in India that it is giving up its morals for access to new technologies, creating some social differences in the society, although Im not sure how true that much actually is. This is testimate to caste system vs new technologies being deved in India. india is a multi-lingual/cultural place though, so i guess it depends on who you are and where you are from.

India is home to religions of all kinds, and is the birth place of Siddhartha Gautama, making India the birthplace of Buddhisim. Hinduism has a strong influence in India, although Islam is beginning to take up more and more of the population in India as time passes.

India is a democracy, the largest in the world. it has a popular movie scene. it also has a decent stock exchange/financial standing in the world.

im sure theyre are tons of typos, but thats all i remember from my studies on india.

well..hans..hats off to you...

but just a clarification on the "you have untouchables, a lower/peasant working class, a merchant class, and the religious/ruling class at the top" point. I am not aware of such a hierarchy unless you are talking of the ancient or medieval period. now the only classification/hierarchy that exists is there are poor people, middle class and the rich people :D

Thats why I typically have to say "what I learned from my studies", because what a book thinks they know, and what is actually happening in another country are two totally different things. Its always important not to take a class and assume thats how life is.

This is what I learned.
