What do you guys think about Warren giving invocation at the inaguration?

I'm curious....Just askin'....What respectable leader of any religious order is not essentially opposed to homosexuality from a theological standpoint?

Technically, if you read the "Word".....It is clearly against it....So is it really Warren? Or his beliefs?

Which is a good point btw....The US has been a victim of the same issue with Mr. Obama....They have voted solely on the man...and not his belief system.

Personally if you are going to place your hand on a Bible to be sworn into political office...who really cares who swears?

I love it when you present generalized, trivial statements as fact.

Being gay or straight is a lot more important than chip selection, and nothing "comes down" to any one thing, such as a large group thinking homos are "icky." :cool
No being straight or being gay isn't important and it shouldn't be. Its only important because some people don't like it and they make a big deal out of it. Homosexuality is as important as eye color.

Makes me laugh all that swearing on the Bible shit, its like something out of the dark ages, do they not realise that loads of people dont see anything sacred at all about it? I have nothing but utter contempt for the Bible so asking me to swear something on it is as pointless as asking me to swear it on a paedophiles life.
Also, it actually kind of goes against the Bible anyway when you think about it. Seem to remember that Jesus was being asked about oaths and he simply replied "let your yes mean yes and your no mean no"

You obviously have no appreciation for a truly high-quality chip. :(
wooooooooooooooooooooooow. That's a VERY SHARP observation. Strong in you The Force is...

what I find devastatingly hilarious and utterly endearing about this quote is that PP slams the Bible - no wait - holds it in contempt, and then uses it to make his point!!!!! :D

Me love you long time, PP!!!!! :thumbup :24:

Hey, just because I hate the Bible dosen't mean there cant be any good in it. For a book that long, its bound to have one or two minor points at least that I agree with. I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with that point anyway, I was just pointing out how Ironic it is that it's against swearing on it.;)

You are so right! I don’t see how being a minister he could have done anything other than go against prop 8. Like he said it was not that he hates the gay community, he just doesn’t believe in redefining the word marriage. And if Rick Warren is who Obama feels is the best person to give the invocation that is his choice, even if it is just for political reasons.

Yeah. like totally. If given the opportunity to vote on Prop 8 pretty much every Christain minister on the planet would HAVE to go vote against it? Right?!

Well, probably not.

The church needs to get over its obsession with homosexuality. And maybe focus on more pressing issues, like uhm... War, poverty and AIDS.

As for Obama...

Having most of the high-ranking Aide's on his cabinet being former Clinton employees and sucking up to the religious right like Bush did... That really is change I can believe in.
