What did your grandparents call their couch?

I remember growing up that my grandparents always called their couch a 'davenport'.

They called it a sofa like the rest of us. Funny thing is I own it now. I got it when they died. It might be old and tatty but I love it because unlike modern sofas it has a high back.

A duvet is different to a blanket. A duvet is one of those quilted bed covers.

Right on! And what you call gas we call petrol, fries = chips, bar = pub and so many other things too. Its a wonder we can even communicate, the amount of differences in our language there is!:eek

Actually, I don't much remember my grandparents, but my mother and myself and siblings called the couch a davenport. Funny how I haven't heard that word in so many years though. Ours were always huge, but had a spring or two sticking out and they were heavier than shit.
