What's the point of TRYING to make new friends on Facebook when you get slapped with a 7 day ban from sending friend requests?

It's my first ban, to be fair, but even then I can't even message non-friends. But I can acept friend requests. o.o
I never tried to send a non-friend a message so I don't know how I stand on that. But I can accept friend requests.
