OCALA, Fla. -- A federal judge has sentenced action star Wesley Snipes to the maximum three-year sentence on tax charges.

Prosecutors had requested three years, one year for each of Snipes' convictions of willfully failing to file a tax return.

Snipes' lawyers offered three dozen letters from family members, friends and even fellow actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington attesting to his good character. They argued he should get only probation, because all three convictions were misdemeanors and the actor had no previous criminal record.

From another board...this is in response to "Why isn't Willie Nelson in jail?"
Dood, listen up....

Snipes was tried in Ocala, Florida. Now if you've ever been to Ocala then stop reading now, you know the jist of this message. If you've never been to Ocala, read on....

As you drive south on I-75, past Atlanta and then cross into Florida you'll begin to feel that maybe you're not in the comfy place that you're used to. Keep on driving, 'cause you're getting close. Eventually you'll get to beautiful Ocala, Florida. Don't take the first exit, take the second one.

When you come off the exit ramp turn left and head into town. Notice the NASCAR cars on the roof of the gas station on the left. That's just a small introduction to the town we Floridians like to call "tard town."

As you head into town you'll notice the "Bible World" store and the "Genesis Mall". Are you getting the feeling that you might not be welcome?

Field negro Snipes was tried for not paying his taxes just a few miles from the "Western Shirts" outlet.

Just wanted to set the stage.

He'll enjoy prison, it's better than Ocala, Florida.

Makes a change seeing a celebrity not get off lighter than the rest of us but I still think its a stupid sentence. He's no danger to anyone and could much more productively right his wrong by earning money and paying it back and doing community service. Letting him sit around in a cushy minimum security prison at taxpayers expense does no one any good.

He's probably going to federal pound me in the ass prison, too!
