I forgot to clarify, my eight years were active. I never did any inactive reserve time. I figured if I was going to be a civilian later, I was going to do at least eight years so they could not call me back ever again. :24:

However, if they called right now, I would pack my bags. :dunno

Given that you've been injured- you can still go?? Aren't you limited medically/physically or something? Juz curious

Well, I was medically separated so I am unfit for service, but I'd still go if they needed me. I can fire a weapon at the enemy, I've done it before. ;)

I could of swore I got my letter at least 8 years after I got out (before 9/11), although I could be wrong.

Yeah the Army is wierd at times. Rightnow, we are getting rid of soldiers. The smallest UCMJ and failing like 2 PT tests get you discharged now, BUT.... at the same time alot of my friends who finished their active duty, were on IRR (Inactive reserve) time keep getting re-activated to National Guard units getting ready for mobilization.

The army is in bad shape too. Were pretty fucking broke. Re-enlistment is getting tougher. Mechanics and Truck Drivers cant re-enlist if they are below E5.(truck drivers and mechanics were a surging MOS before) Promotion points are soaring, atleast ion my MOS. New SGM of the Army wants to get rid of 40,000 soldiers before the fiscal year is finished

Anyone who serves under eight years of service is subject to recall to active duty and/or annual screening until an eight year active duty service commitment (ADSC) is fulfilled with a mix of active duty and inactive ready reserve status.

Retirees are subject to recall to active duty by their respective Secretary of their branch. Indefinitely.

(An 3S071 is a Personnel Craftsman aka an office bitch, a paper pusher, etc. That's what I did after Intel, it was my job to know this crap.)

Don't thank me. Thank the taxpayers that paid us and sent us on all those great trips, fed us, taught us trades and skill sets, and let's not forget all that cheap no-tax overseas booze we swilled. ;) Good times indeed.

I was in the US Marines as an electrical repair spcecialist
Engeneering Flight Line Support
Camp Pendleton CA MWSS-372
1992-1996
Paris Island Recruit
Maritorias Mass Award Straight out of Bootcamp
I was Guide the second half of bootcamp.
Guide is Team Leader.
The other guy couldn't hack it.
I wasnt chosen for it up front cause im short and guide is at the front of the drill team
the drill team is from tall to short
me being the shortest
I won Expert on rifle range and got trophy for range high (best shooter umungst hundreds of others)
I recieved bonus money for having an extremely high score on the asvab (test in high school to see where people stand if they join the military)
My sister was pissed at me because I scored higher on the ACT than her

Ive done all that and I was just messing around
I never studied in high school much and hard stayed at school
I was into art but my dad told me there is no money to be made with that
so I joined the marines cause I didnt know what else to do plus I wanted to
to do the bootcamp thing
it was a breeze for me
except a few issues with being short

Chances are he wont make it, and will be re-classed after failing to some shitty job that he doesnt want. I hope he gets a stipulation in his contract for the event that he fails out. Not trying to be mean bro, but most of those guys who are trying out with you have been in the military for a while. They can all most probly out PT you. Any single little medical issue or misdameanor crime will disqualify you. Get ready to lie at MEPS. Instead of trying to be a Navy Seal, Army Ranger, SF etc.. pick a job where you learn a certified skill to leave the military with.
