It is the 4th of July Independence Day weekend. Post if you served in the military, give as much info as you want. Who knows, some of us might have crossed paths. Give some unit info, etc., and maybe even post a pic or 2 of yourself in uniform.

I'll start:

USMC November 1982 - October 1986. MOS 2145 Tracked Vehicle Repairman, M-60 Tanks (Antiques now, lol)

Units:

Boot camp, Parris Island SC, 2nd Bn. D co. Platoon 2011.

Fleet Marine Force:

First Force Service Support Group, (FSSG) Twentynine Palms Ca.

Brigade Service Support Group 7, Operation Freedom Banner, Pohang Korea

Third FSSG, Okinawa

Maintenance Support Detachment 11, Camp Fuji, Japan

Combat Service Support Detachment 31 & 32 (CSSD)Camp Fuji Japan with detours to the Phillipines.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you American taxpayers for funding my salary, training and travel. I considered my service a privilege because I gained skills that have helped me in life, and I acquired an appreciation of other world cultures. I learned the people of the world are similar in many ways. Though our cultures differ, we all desire to live, love and laugh in peace and economic security.

I have not, but my father did serve in the military (Marines). He got out before I was born, though.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for those of you who have served in any capacity. I know that it's a lot of time away from your family, a lot of hellish situations to deal with, and little to no appreciation at times. THANK YOU!!!

No offense, Dana, but you already said you've been drinking tonight...you should probably sign off before you dig yourself in deeper. Don't make a mockery of a thread like this, IJS.

Dad served in WW2.

My dad did too. Many Americans are not aware of the sacrifices your Diggers made in WW 2.

My cousin works in an RSL club in Sydney. He's a permanent resident. Took R&R in Sydney from Vietnam service, met an Aussie girl and the rest, as they say, is history. He tells me of the ANZAC day piss ups and other events he has become fond of over the years.

What? Were you the ship DJ or something?

Geeze you Squids had it made. I remember when I was in my MOS training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, I saw this guy in sateens with a beard in our barracks. He was a Seabee - and back then, Seabee E-5 and above could wear beards. :eek It was then I realized I could have chosen a service that was not relegated to bad haircuts for the next 4 years. :p

I'm honest enough to admit that I never was and arn't brave enough to risk my life for other mens greed and quarrels. As such I have maximum respect for those that are and are braver than me. Dislike the men who start wars, maximum respect for those who fight them. :thumbup
