They don't cover extensive modifications. what the fuck? I told them I'm just doing intake header and exhaust... and that should be fine as long as it's still legal on US streets.

But my coverage would be voided if I say, supercharged it? That's BS.

good thing you didn't find out the hard way.;)

Definitely... That woulda screwed me hardcore.

I gotta go to the office to work on one of their phones here after lunch so I'll ask if it's possible to stay covered no matter what i do to the car, as long as it stays USDOT legal.

Yeah, I told them what I already have intake, header and exhaust... but I'm not going to be opening my mouth about anything else that is going on the car.

This has to be BS because they cover Cobra's which come s/c'd from the factory. I don't see how that interferes with them having to fix your car if some bitch rams into you at an intersection. I do know they (and everyone else) will not repair damage caused at a racetrack of any kind. Seems reasonable to me.

I do know plenty of people that have had their cars modified and then smashed, and reaped back money for the mods they did to the car because the car was totalled. Maybe you should consider changing insurance companies.

The difference is that the Cobra comes from the factory as original equipment. The EM1 doesn't, it's aftermarket.

I'd bet that if you ripped out that eaton and threw on a whipple it wouldn't be covered.

The reason why it's still covered is because most insurance guys aren't also car guys and don't know the difference.

Interesting since I did just that. I guess I'll cross that path if it ever happens then :(

Cars don't go up in value because of modifications, you'd just end up paying higher insurance if you got extra coverage to cover those.
