So who's read it? Could it quite possibly be the greatest graphic novel ever? Indeed!

For more in depth wacky dissections of the book:
The Annotated Watchmen

P.S. Also extremely excited for the movie and word is there'll be a teaser/trailer for it before The Dark Knight.

I've recently got into comics. I've always like comics but I've never been serious. Lately I've bought about 30 Punisher comics.

Anyway I wanted to get Watchmen, I have heard nothing but good about it.

We need a comics sub-board on here.

Yeah, I got into comics a couple years ago. We don't seem to be getting any Watchmen discussion here so I'm just gonna hijack and derail my own thread.

What kind of comics do you want? I don't really read anything that's part of a big series because it's too intimidating. Like I won't read a Batman "main" series because there's tons of comics. I usually stick to mini-series or graphic novels.

I haven't read any comics in ages :(

But Watchmen looks good :) I'll have to go find out if my local comic shop is even still open and look for it

It's easy to find anyways. It seems to be the one graphic novel that you can always count on any bookstore having if it sells graphic novels.

It'd be a really good book to discuss if we had a book club. And it was listed in a list by Times... I think it was top 100 books ever or something. And then people have the nerve to say that comics are just for kids :p

lol Indeed.

Definitely check out Watchmen though. All this talk about it makes me want to re-read it but I have a pile of books to read so I can't right now.

I think I'm gonna go for comics with characters that aren't technically super heroes, like the Punisher, Batman, Iron Man, etc.

I think I'm try to get into The Spirit before the movie comes out this year.

I think next time I go to Borders I'll look for the Watchmen graphic novel.

Check out 100 Bullets. People are offered money, a gun and a chance to get revenge on who wronged them (simply put). I haven't read the whole series but as far as I know there are no superheroes.

Also, are you open to other types of comics that don't involve superheroes (with real powers or not)? Because there are tons of great stuff out there that tackle other issues, like Maus, which is a true account of concentration camps in WW2 and such.

So, instead of making a thread for the movie I've kind of designated this thread the Everything Watchmen Megathread... so here's the trailer to the movie coming out next year:
YouTube - WATCHMEN Trailer - AMAZING!

Ignore the guy talking at the end.

I saw the trailer twice on my computer before I went to see The Dark Knight, but seeing it on the big screen actually gave me goosebumps all over.

:eek:nod:That does look amazing! I was looking for a good book to read, and if the book is anything like the trailer then I'm sure to enjoy it.

I'm at ground zero on Watchmen, I know absolutely nothing about it. I can't decide to wait until after I see the film to read up and get to know the source material or wait and go see the film with no expectations at all and see how much I wanna get to know about it afterwards.

The comic is amazing and does a lot of things with the comic medium.

But I haven't seen the movie. The visuals look nice, really nice, but that trailer doesn't tell anything about the movie to someone who knows nothing about the comic. An actor in the movie said they're going to keep the comic ending in tact, as well so I think the movie will be pretty similar. But since it's not out I don't know if they'll put emphasis on action or not... the comic had some action but it wasn't the main focus. I'm just not sure how the themes of the comic will translate to the movie. *shrugs*

Doesn't hurt to pick up the book though.

God I can't wait for this movie to come out, but I really can't wait to finish reading it. People just need to get past the fact that it is a graphic novel.

Hell, go one better. Call it a comic.
There are some people who still think comics are just for kids though. Same with video games.
