Just a few observations...

Ron, get off the stage. No one takes you serious and you're an idiot. Yes, the FAA and FDA are good things. To even suggest that the free market will ensure that drug companies will put out safe drugs is idiotic. The primary goal of the government is to protect the people.

Michelle, get off the stage. No one takes you serious and you're an idiot. That is all...

I'll get to the rest later.

What about Rick Perry, wasn't he there?

I missed out because I couldn't find the channel it was on.

I think someone is afraid of someone outside of the typical political mold.

Not at all. I would LOVE to have someone outside the mold run for president. But it has to be someone with a little common sense.

I mean do you seriously think this country would be better if EVERY fucking federal program was stripped?
No consumer protections at all? No federal protections when it comes to food, medicine, etc??? Do you really think the free market will provide adequate protections?
I'm sorry, I can agree with shrinking of the federal government in certain areas. But the main reason for government is to protect the citizens...

Um, Paul doesn't want this.

He didn't say that all of them should be abolished... but once again, Tim hears what Tim wants to hear. He said that there wasn't any reason why private industry couldn't come up with ways to put regulations into place, and those organizations could very well be every bit as "respected" as their current government counterparts in time. He also said that the states could enact their own regulations for items as well... it all comes down to limitations of the federal government and putting powers back into the hands of the states where they belong. Did you also pay attention to the incredibly good point that he made that the lobbyists are already the people that write all of the legislation that regulates industries as it is... do you disagree with that point? That's the way it's been and the way that it's going to be, so why not cut out the middleman, and put some oversight on it in the process... not government oversight, but oversight by the people.

Here's another person who apparently thinks that if the federal gov't doesn't do it then it doesn't get done.
Tim, where's the quote where any of the presidential candidates declared as part of their campaign platform that they would eliminate all federal protections when it comes to food, medicine, etc?
Yes, the main reason for government is to protect the citizens, but not from themselves, and not from fiction. One of the main things gov't is supposed to protect the citizens from has received the greatest neglect: protection from gov't tyranny.

Cain's 9-9-9 plan is another reason to not vote for him. A 9% sales tax simultaneously with a 9% income tax?? History shows that once you allow that, both taxes will go UP. There's no way we can trust a future congress to eliminate the income tax once a sales tax is in place. They will only find reasons to increase both.

Ron Paul specifically said that he would eliminate the FAA and the FDA when asked. When questioned about who would keep our drugs safe, he said the free market.
I'm sorry, but that's not even in the realm of sanity.

Let's just use the FDA as an example.
If the FDA were to go away tomorrow and it was up to the states to oversee safe drugs and food, that sounds good and all, but here are the problems with that.
Each state would have differing regulations and requirements. Drug company "A" would need to follow different guidelines depending on what states they were going to sell their product. States might lower their threshold of safety to attract cheaper drugs while others might have tighter controls. It would be a huge cluster fuck. What happens when drugs cross state lines? Where a drug might be completely legal in PA it might not be in NJ because of different safety rules. How would you address drugs that come into the country?
How do you ensure the safety of the American public by trying to have 50 different sets of rules and regulations when we live in a global economy and nothing is made locally anymore? It doesn't make any sense...

And I haven't even touched on food safety... What does a meat packer do to ensure that he can transport his meat across the country???

Instead of trying to abolish federal programs that make sense, why don't we give them all a long over due overhaul and fix the problems they have?

I knew that Cain was off his rocker when he suggested we follow the Chilean model when it comes to retirement.

I've read about what went on in Chile and it's a very sad story. The country was devastated by what went on.

Or we could give them their long overdue overhaul and then spin them off into the private sector where they'll be infinitely more efficient and proficient in doing their jobs. The government can't even run the Postal Service because of the glut involved in it, private enterprise > federal government. I want you to check out this link....

NAV Canada

Hey look at that... Canada's version of the FAA is a private non-share corporation run by a board of directors. I don't see planes falling from the sky in Canada... do you? It was spun off from federal control in 1996, and seems to be working relatively well. Why don't we ask our Canadian members about air traffic in their country? You're always touting Canada's health care system... do you not like their ATC system? Why couldn't the same thing be done with the FDA?

Now go take a look at this PDF... FDA Motion of Dismissal of Lawsuit. The lawsuit involved the issue of raw milk and the FDA ban on its interstate transport.

On page 26

Plaintiffs’ assertion of a ‘fundamental right to their own bodily and physical health, which includes what foods they do and do not choose to consume for themselves and their families’ is similarly unavailing because plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish.

Wait... did they try to claim that we don't have a fundamental right to obtain the food we want? What happened to basic rights? We're free to purchase whatever the FDA will allow us to purchase, regardless of what we want. Well that makes perfect sense... in an oligarchy. I won't argue that the FDA serves some important purposes, but is there any reason why those could not be served with a private non-share corporation like Canada's ATC system?

Yeah, Cain is a total and complete nutjob.
