When I was a kid we had one these spider that managed to get in our house. He wasn't quite as big as this one. The reason it scared the living shit out of me was I was sitting next to my mom and it apparently crawled down on to my shoulder and we both noticed it at the same time and couldn't seem to get up fast enough as we were both spazzing out. Killed it several minutes later. Damn I hate spiders.

Yes! I read your link. The myths had me laughing.... but I was feeling all creeped out just the same. I agree.... if I encountered a spider this size.... even if it was called The Love Spider cause it was good hearted and cuddly... I'd scream so loud and run as fast as I could to get my shotgun!

Spiders to me are no laughing matter even if they are smaller and more afraid of me. I have put marks on walls and windows and ceilings and curtains and other people because of spiders...... :willy_nilly:

I rescue them when they're in the house here. Our problem here is Black Widows. They are considered the most venomous spider in North America. They like to build their webs under tables, and in dark places. You have to be real careful sticking your hand in dark places . . . well that didn't sound right, but, you get the idea :D

Why are you so fearful of spiders?

Black Widow Spiders! :eek

The fear of spiders was carried down from my own mother's fear. Why she feared them, I do not know. I just knew that if those horrible things could cause such a ruckus and put fear in my own mother.... then they must be something to be leery of.

The fear hit a head several years ago for me. I was on a canoe trip. We came to a bridge. There were 2 culverts under the bridge. One was large, one was small. We took the large one. The highway over the culverts was two lanes wide.

As you entered the culvert it became very dark. It took a few seconds to adjust to see somewhat. When my eyes did adjust it was a nightmare! There were various sizes of spiders hanging from the ceiling of the culvert and they were on the sides and IN THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Those exclamation points do not emphasize my shock and fear at all!)

I almost capsized the canoe. If the guy I was with hadn't of said there were spiders in the water too and to stop moving..... which is when I froze and screamed and screamed and screamed and.... well you can just imagine... I am a girl!

BTW... did I mention we were going UP stream too? This guy got us through the tunnel of spider horror and out the other side. I imagined spiders in my hair..... my hair was long down to my butt. I insisted that we hit the shore NOW!!!!!!!!!!

We did. I jumped out and was still screaming and yelling about spiders in my hair.... The guy told me there were none in my hair and then he had to slap me! I immediately stopped screaming and started crying. LIKE THE LITTLE GIRL I WAS AND AM when it comes to spiders.

Anywho..... this just instilled my deep desire to avoid spiders at all costs. And if I should happen to be left on my own and one should make its presence known.... IT MUST DIE!!!!!!! By any means available.

Did you know that a can of hairspray is really cool to..... well.... you know.....

Erm . . . WOW :eek All I have is sympathy for you. I didn't know it was that bad. The way you told that story had my skin crawling and I could picture you under that culvert with all those spiders.

The guy you were with actually had to slap you? I thought that stuff only happened in movies.

So, would you ever go back under that particular culvert again? Or through any culvert or under a bridge that might have spiders hanging from above? I wouldn't blame you if you said no.

We all have our fears, rational or otherwise. Fear of spiders can be a rational one, seeing that they can bite you and hurt you.

Well, note to self, if ever we two should meet, I'll leave my spider collection at home ;)

On the way back downstream I was told it would be real quick back through the culvert. HA! Like that was gonna happen or even make a difference. I had to walk up a steep embankment, cross the two lane highway, go down the other side's steep embankment.... but I didn't see a spider at all. :D I never will go into culverts again! Period!

Yes.... A slap.....I was probably a sight and he was afraid I was going to have a heart attack or something. I have never never never screamed as hard or as long as I did that day. I swear it took years off my life! :(

I'm sure you are kidding about the spider collection, yes? :cool
