I was near the coast in South Carolina and the little piranha gnats (whatever they are really called I dunno) were eating me alive.

Sand fleas maybe? I got well acquainted with them during my 3-month stay on Parris Island in 1982. You could actually hear the little bastards crunching in your ears as they consumed your flesh. :eek

Well I've never seen or heard those on my beach. I'd freak if I did.

They mainly stay inland. We had no bug issues while on Sanibel Island this past week, but once on Hunting Island in SC, we got consumed by bugs on the beach...Wow...I'm just now realizing how many islands I've spent time on. :)

Usually the sea breeze keeps them off the beach.
