Okay...I'm asking for help, guys. Anyone here live or visit the DC area a lot??? We are going to be there in May and are looking for a good motel at a reasonable price that is close to the DC area. We are looking for something around $75 - $100 per night that is in a decent area and convenient for access to the Metro station. Anybody have any suggestions???

well i would say stay either in Virginia or Maryland. be alot cheaper than staying at a motel in DC.

btw, stay out of Georgetown unless you wanna get shot. oh and the stop lights in DC are on the side of the road and not hanging above it like normal cities do.

That's what we were looking at. There's a hotel in Silver Springs, MD that we've been looking at but aren't quite sold on yet.

Thanks for the tip on the stoplights. We'll be relying on public transportation, but it's still good to know. ;)

ok...

I've worked in DC for the past 5 years. I know the place pretty well. There's nothing to be worried about in Georgetown. Just don't go to the east side of DC.

And here's a tip for a cheap place to stay.

Days Inn Arlington/Washington DC (only 5 minutes of downtown DC)
2201 Arlington Blvd
US 50 & North Pershing Drive
Arlington, VA 22201 US
Phone: 703-525-0300

Georgetown is full of luxury. There really isn't anything to be scared of at all.

things can happen anywhere, but it's not a commonality with Georgetown, at all.

Thank you very much for the info!!! :)

Anything (aside from the normal stuff like the memorials and governement buildings that people go and see in DC) that you would say we absolutely should go see???

You could see....me! :D:nod:

Kidnap V and her boys, too!

I haven't been there yet, but I have heard great things about the Spy Museum.

The National Zoo is ok, though far from the best zoo i've seen. Good part about it is that it's completely free. (except parking, although there's a metro station there)

Juli (Elle) really wants to see the Holocaust Museum.

You could come to the Australian Embassy (where I work) on the 17th of May, as we (and most other embassies) are having an "Around the World Open House" event. Which is where the embassies open there doors to the general public to showcase there country and culture. Though I believe I won't be there as I'll be travelling to Australia for work at that time.

Another tip: Make sure you all have photo ID's with you at all times.

I think we're planning on the Zoo and the Holocaust Museum...never thought about the Spy Museum, though. Definitely want to see the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and all the other memorials. There's SO MUCH to see and so much of it is free or low cost. :)

Ugh, the National Zoo is SHIT.

We have been there more than enough to be able to tell you people this!!

What you'll do:

Drive around forever looking for parking whilst dodging pedestrians that think they can cross a road at any time, regardless of oncoming traffic.

Walk forever and ever in the heat, (yes, in May, it gets hot at times, esp. with the black asphalt all over the place), and complain about the mile long lines at the crappy food stands.

Spend 54.00 on a hot dog, drink, fries, etc. (quality food, I tell ya).

Wander all over the animals pens, and continuously wonder: "where the eff are all the animals??"

Visit the souveneir shop, spend too much money on the "cute" things they have, even though the zoo experience itself, sucked.

Eventually leave. And when you get in your car, you'll have that feeling that you saw something, but then you remember, "hey, I barely saw any fcking animals, and this is the much hyped Nation ZOO?"

Have fun! ;)

Yes, most of it is free admission, which is wonderful. It makes up for the 15.00 parking you'll have to pay, unless you get a a ray of shining light from heaven, (an open metered parking in front of the place you're going to).

But, yea, if you go to the Embassy, Liam and would enjoy being your tour guide, in a sense!
