I was checking the spaghetti packets i have at home... and was looking at the ingredients..

from monday i will cut all meat and dairy product..and was checking if the pasta have eggs...
anyways one packet say nothing, and the other i have say may contain traces of egg
so what everyone think? should i trust it and eat this?

If it is a food allergy you might want to avoid the noodles otherwise it is probably only trace amounts of egg.

I wouldn't have even thought to check noodles for dairy :p I'm with Fred, if it's a diet then I wouldn't worry about it, if it's for medical reasons then - better safe than sorry.

it is for fasting and not allow dairy.. so not for any medical reason . but if i have the pasta that may have egg no point then cut the rest lol like butter or boild eggs .. i can find many other food to eat i eat all vegetables

just pasta is cheap food and quick:tooth

Rules for Lenten Fasting in the Orthodox Church


Category I


Meat and Meat Products (includes beef, pork, chicken, etc., as well as items which have beef gelatin [such as some commercial brands of gelatin], lard [some commercial breads and crackers], etc.)

Category II


Dairy Products (includes butter, eggs, milk, cheese, etc., as well as items containing dairy whey, milk extracts, etc.)

Category III


Fish (includes sardines, tuna, bass, trout, shark, pike, etc. but not shell fish such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.)

Category IV


Olive Oil (according to some, this would extend to all oil) and Wine (which includes all alcoholic beverages such as whiskey, beer, etc.)

Foods Permitted throughout Lent:


Shellfish (such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.)

Vegetables and Vegetable products (including grains [rice, wheat, flour, pasta {non-egg pasta}, etc.] vegetable gelatins, etc.)

Fruit

Eggs would fit in Category I, as a meat product. But they aren't dairy... dairy refers to products of mammalian milk.

i know what you mean but does fit with dairy more..

if you vegetarian you do not eat meat but do eat dairy
what you are vegan you do cut dairy plus eggs too ..maybe not dairy the eggs but fall there..

A lot of pasta contains eggs because that's how pasta is tradionally made ( flour, eggs, salt and olive oil).


I'd eat the pasta from the packet that says nothing, although the other one might be ok if eggs isn't listed in the ingredients. Sometimes factories will have a warning about may contain eggs because the factory making them uses eggs in other products and they cannot be 100% sure there will be not any cross contamination.

ok thanks i will avoid having pasta this week just to be sure.. like i said above good cheap meal compare to some veggies.. thats the only reason i consider eating pasta
