Would it matter? I am sure Wikipedia shall cover their tracks though as most sites do these days. The ever conventional excuse of "We are sorry, but this site is currently under maintenance". Besides, I am sure "whomever" did this had a very good reason. Indeed. A very good reason.
Matter in general? Probably not. But I like knowing the truth =]
Then I would hope Wikipedia decides to, as well as other sites, tell the "truth". Though one should not hold their breath anytime soon.
