Ugh, V. I know that feeling all too well. Liberty and Darian (the girls) were in and out of the hospital until they were 7 & 6. It was insane. Glad to hear your son is doing better. Dehydration gets a lot of kids...and adults...so keep an eye on what YOU are getting into your system, as well.

And guys...as for the ear infections, they are usually treated with the methods currently listed...but if there's too much fluid built up behind the drum, they'll simply lance it and let it drain out. It hurts a tad...but nothing you can't live with. Otherwise, they'll send you home with 'scripts for antibiotics and ear drops. It usually clears up in a couple days, but don't stop your medications until they're gone. (Recently went through this with Darian.)

For more severe loss of hearing...well, Liberty had surgery at 7 to release the pressure in her ears. She was 75% deaf from birth, and after the surgery (they removed her adnoids and tonsils and lanced her ears), she could hear clearly for the first time ever. It was painful for her for about a week, and then she was running around again. I kept her pretty doped up, though.

Ok. I rambled enough.

vfast, dont make me whoop your ass! lol

Sim, that sucks about your daughter. Glad she can hear good now though. Normally it is my son austin that is in and out of the hospital, but this time it was Jacob. He was sooo good there at the hospital though. When they put the IV in, all he said was OUCH! haha.. I thought it was so cute and brave.

Are you kidding me? Did he go to an ENT to have that done?

I'm blocked from an ear infection...never had one before. was on antibiotics for 2 weeks and steriods for a week.

If your not in pain right now, youre probably fine. I had an ear infection last year and they treated me just like you describe. The worst part was the hearing impairment in the affected ear. I went back to the doctor and he acted like he was annoyed that I was back and told me I was fine that it would take a while for the fluid to drain and that it was just fluid, kinda like water. Anyways, it was only annoying but it took about 2 months for it to finally drain.

P.S. Hope your little one gets better soon V.

Nope, no pain but a pain in the ass hearing my heart beat in my left ear all the time. I was getting that annoyed feeling from the nurses each time I called the Drs. office but I am a salesman and I need to God damn hear my customers! I'm not waiting for 2 months...it's been 3 weeks already.

Oh man...the poor little girl. It breaks my heart! I hope she is ok now. Doesn't loss of hearing affect speech when you are that young? What did the tonsils have to do with the hearing loss?

I hope they do lance it to remove the fluid build up...any idea why for a short time it was switching back and forth between ears?

Oh, yeah, sorry V that I got on a ramble about my stupid problems.

I hear ya on the 3 weeks thing man. I wanted to take my doctors little flashlight and jam it in his ear then tell him to wait another month to take it out. I went in wanting him to lance it and force it to drain but he wouldnt do it. Ive changed doctors since then and hes not a doctor anymore. Apparently IM not the only one he pissed off and he just quit and left.

Anyways, your ear drains thru your throat and I believe that the little tube that it drains thru comes thru those glands. If you have problems with the glands, they will swell and pinch off the drain tube. If you look at the diagram and see where the adnoid is, you will understand how it can cause the infection.

I was also told by the nurse to take max strength Sudafed along with the scrips. The Sudafed will help speed up the adnoids returning to normal. They said that the best way to prevent an inner ear infection was to treat sinus infections asap b/c that is where an inner ear infection starts. Hope this was some help to ya. :D

Re: RE: Was away for 2 days

She's fine now. It didn't affect her speech so much that we really noticed. Only a few words were cut off, and we never realized she was always reading our lips. She's still playing catch-up on her language skills, though, and now that she's going on 10, she's a gorgeous child without a care in the world.

Her tonsils and adnoids were abnormally large for a child. (The ENT said he had never seen them so enlarged, and he's been in the business for fifty years.) The larger things are, the more pressure that is exuded on the ears...and for the rest of that, read Bossman's post. (Thanks Boss! lol)

It has to do with pressure, again. Your body has a tendency to even things out so that you don't lose your sense of balance. Your body is obviously saying, "Hey...we've walked our left side into the walls enough, so let's try the right side for a while so the other one can heal..." Does that make sense? I mean, it's 0230, and I've been looking at enough Invision bs to make one's head spin.

Re: RE: Was away for 2 days

hahaha Kids are great, aren't they? Better keep an eye on him...he'll grow up way too fast way before you're ready for it.

A friend of mine was Liberty's nurse at the time (she went into my ER, with a severe asthma attack and bronchitis yet again, since we lived around the corner from it), and he still tells the story of how Little Miss Liberty started to giggle when he gave her a shot and started her IV. People get a kick out of it. But a lot of them never knew she was more accustomed to being in the hospital than the people who work there. lol And then, of course, as silly men will do, he rammed her bed into all the walls on our way to her room. We kinda got in trouble for waking patients at 1 in the morning, but eh...it was worth it. She still loves her Mr. Bryant to death, too.

That helps alot Boss. The doctor had me taking Mucinex with the decongestant which is doubley as strong as the Sudafed and taking Sudafed in between...didn't really help.

I went to the ENT today. He told me my left ear is filled with fluid (greyish) and my right ear is "like a glass half full" (brownish). He felt very strong that I could take a very strong antibiotic and knock it out of me, that the Zitromax I was taking wasn't strong enough for my condition. He said that if that didn't help, he'd do the lancing thing and draining of the fluid. He told me the only problem with that is while the eardrum is lanced and will evacuate the fluid, in the 2 days it takes to heal closed again I risk having more fluid enter my ear and I'd have it again. He also told me that I have a deviated septum, which I was unaware of and this possibly can be the cause of previous conditions where I had fluid build up in my ears.

I started the drug, Omnicef (Cefdinir) which is a 300mg antibiotic, twice a day for 10days. We'll see how this does. He was really a good Doctor. He really explained what was happening to me and wants to see me in 3 weeks to see how I'm doing.

That Omnicef is some good shit. Its like penicilin only waayyyyy stronger. Glad to hear you got a doctor that is willing to do what you ask. Another thing they told me was that over the counter nasal spray could help to open up the passage also.

No problem. It's what I'm around for. lol And thanks...she was a pistol tonight. *smiles*

I'm happy you found a doctor you are pleased with. It's a rare find.
