Also Bro I can see you're starting with personal insults now too, as I said before I'm not into bickering and name calling and that's what you're trying to turn this into, I believe it's about time to put you on ignore, goodbye :)

It means that you've been exposed to it all your life which is what many of the studies about this topic discuss: Does watching violent programs, movies, games have an affect on a viewer's behavior? You're 100% behind the opinion that it doesn't, but you're not one that should be conducting the study. You fit the part of the group of those IN the study. Someone conducting the study would ideally be unbiased which was also mentioned on this thread.

I don't know when you were insulted. Maybe you're insulted easily. It's probably all of the violence in the games and tv you've been subjected to.:jk

I don't know when you were insulted.

your post was definitely meant to be insulting, now as I said I'm not going to waste any more time with this, this debate got boring days ago, EVERYBODY is biased here, nobody is going to convince anybody of anything, hence why I don't like engaging in debates because they are utterly pointless to begin with, now I am done with this thread, you can stay here and try to find someone else to bicker with if you want. Or don't, I really don't care.

I never realized that I was bickering. I thought it was an interesting topic and the guy who started the topic is abandoning it. It's 10 pages in, let's make it a book!

we can call it the book of violence and how it doesnt make sense that anyone with a strong will and mind would ever buy into believing that anyone can suddenly become evil enough because of something thats portrayed in media

I'm abandoning this topic because there is nothing else to be said about it really, at this point all it is is repeating the same things over and over again, what's the point? If you want to debate start a new topic and perhaps I'll join you there :dunno

I suppose I'll rebut the last point you tried to make though, Violent movies have been around a lot longer than you think, you can go back all the way to the 60s and even earlier and find that there are many movies back then that are just as violent as anything you would see today, you'd have to have grown up in the 30s or 40s not to have grown up with violent movies.

Lol! I didn't see any bickering, but I could be mistaken if he had later edited his posts so the insults were taken out

One of my textbooks has some info on aggression and individual differences. I'd love to read it and get back to this thread and share some of it.

I think that seeing violence on TV can affect you if you are young, like a child, because their minds are so young and shape-able. I think seeing it on TV would have an affect, but it is up to the person - 'who they are - which determines if they will act on that or choose to imitate that behaviour or whatever. Who they are will determine it. If they are a child who has been raised with a good sense of morality, then they will probably not take in what they see. Remember that children are at a critical stage in their life, when learning is being developed. I think it's important to watch what we give them.

By the way, what parent would show their child this stuff?! :p

Like I keep saying, it's a combination of factors, they all tie in together. Some people may be genetically inclined to be aggressive than others, which is fair enough. But those genes being expressed may depend upon the surroundings/environment/whatever.
My brother has that arsehole streaks in him like my dad, but I would say with the help of my mum, she knocked some sense into him.

"And you never will be convinced otherwise because of the bias. Violent video games existed before you were born! And movie and tv violence hit its peak when you hit puberty!"

^^^^^ Most definitely meant to be insulting ^^^^^^

this person wanted to turn this into a personal thing and I'm not having that, that's why he is now on ignore, I don't waste my time with people like that. Anyways what you say is correct, a childs mind is "shapeable" as you put it, and they are likely to be influenced on something they see on TV, and it is up to the parents to pay attention to what their child is watching, My argument is more about ADULTS being influenced by what they're watching on TV, an Adult with a fully developed and healthy mind isn't going to be affected by something he sees on TV.

I don't see how I turned this into a personal issue. This topic is a matter of opinion and I happen to be of the opinion that environment plays an important part of our lives. The books we read, the tv we watch, the games we play, the sports we watch, the schools we were taught in, and the houses we grew up in are all key factors to our behaviors. You can disagree with it or agree with it. I'm not offended either way. You can ignore me. It's still a free country.

the fact that you disagree with me isn't insulting the fact that you are intentionally trying to be insulting with your posts is, you tried to make this into a personal thing and changed your tune when you saw that I wasn't engaging in that sort of "debate" and I tried to give this debate another chance when I rebutted your point about me having grown up with violent movies and you never responded to that.

So, your rebuttal is that an adult with a sound mind isn't going to be influenced by anything seen on tv as a child might?
