Venting Anger

i don't get angry very easily any more. it's not good for your health.

when people start saying things that get me upset, most times i just leave and don't even leave any choice words behind. i don't even flip off and yell at stupid drivers anymore either. i almost got run down in a parking lot by an idiot talking on her cell phone a few days ago, didn't say a word to her and it was barely a blip on the adrenalin monitor.

the chemistry of anger is very toxic. all that adrenalin that is released gets broken down into lots of different toxic chemicals as we come down. if we stay angry, we keep pumping adrenalin and eventually those metabolites start damaging organs. ulcers are a prime example and are likely to be the source of the expressions 'eating yourself up from the inside'.

I used to throw things when something wasn't working like it was supposed to, but then that object would never work again. As I grew up, I realized there was little reason to have explosions of anger and it was better to understand why I'm upset and take a few moments to calm down. Some things are harder to get a grasp on than others, but it's always better to talk it out, rant online, or call someone up to discuss it. Like Tommy mentioned, the physical toll excessive anger places on your body can be very damaging. There's enough things in life to worry about than dying young.

I was walking through a cross walk on campus one day and was half way through when this jerk decided he'd just go through, so he drove right in front of me. I kid you not, his truck was less than 6 inches away from me. I was seeing red and did the first thing that came to mind, which is likely one of the more stupid things I've ever done- I reached out and popped his tailgate with my bare hand.

The worst I think I've done is mouth off to a bunch of thuggy looking guys on the building steps when I was home alone. Ooh, they lit my fire.

next time something like that happens, thump the side of the vehicle, fall down and start moaning.

i was really tempted to wake that bimbo up with that act but i resisted. it's a great one though. i've seen it done a couple of times and one of them looked like the person was going to get a settlement.

oh, and darkcgi, even though you were agreeing, unless the rest of homo is sapiens and not sexual, it's pretty insulting to do it that way, even if i were gay.

people react on instinct to things that happen
without making smart decisions
and then they suffer the consequences
its due to impulse acting
another note: people should know the difference when someone has impulsively responded to your actions
(so you don't overreact on their reaction)
but it happens to quick to make these decisions
if you really want something in the over all end
then choose wisely the reaction you have to actions

so maybe in this instance, since obviously that smilie is not universally loved, you might consider picking a different one for that quick agreement response in the future?

may i suggest you select one of these? even the last one is much less likely to offend than the one you're using.

as long as that gun isn't pointing at the person you're mad at and you're on a shooting range, that is a really good way of blowing off steam.

whenever i was cracking concrete (i used to install and maintain street lighting), i would visualize the face of somebody i despised and go at it with my favorite tool, mr. jack hammer.

never did it on the range, but i'll bet imagining you're blowing somebody you hate away instead of just putting holes in paper has got to be a rush.

Well, for me, it depends how angry I am. If I'm extremely angry, I sit in my room & cry my eyes out. Like this one time, my step-dad pissed me off sooooooooooooo freakin' bad, I cried for like an hour or too really hard. If it's not too mad, in other words, if I'm just mad, I just try to deal w/ it.

:eekRemind me to not get on this man's bad side. I don't want to get mistaken for a piece of concrete!

that's something you don't need to worry about. i really am deeply committed to non-violent solutions to all conflicts and controversy.

i disappear from threads in these forums when they start heating up just as quick as i can and i loathe it when i'm the target of a ratpacking by a frenzied mob of frustrated, angry wage slaves cliqueing it up with their herd mentality thinking it gives their empty lives meaning by attempting to infuriate or humiliate me.

billy jack was one of my role models. what you don't want to do is back me up to a wall and threaten me leaving me no option but to escape by going through you.

otherwise i'm a pretty friendly and useful guy. i'm a great cook, i'm an expert small animal handler, and a lot of people think i'm very funny and play beautiful music.

i'm momentarily banned from two forums which is why y'all are getting so much of my drivel today.

I believe you're a friendly guy. I was just making a goofy comment. I respect the fact that you're a zoologist. I love animals, myself. At one point, I owned 3 dogs, 2 cats, a small tankful of fish and a gecko. I've downsized since then--just a cat, the fish, and the same gecko--5 years later.
I also don't tolerate mob-mentality BS. I may misinterpret someone's comments now and then as someone may misinterpret mine. Genereally, I come here for the small talk or to share jokes. I've commented on religious and political threads, but I try not to get too carried away with those because people can get huffy on those topics. I do my share of ranting, but I'm really more of a smart-ass.

If im angry and need to stop being so relatively quickly, i'll have a cup of tea and find somewhere quiet to drink it, its always been soothing enough to calm me down but in retrospect, im not one who easily gets angry or can maintain being angry for long.
