Should the age to start drinking be changed ? 18 in Canada seem resonable enough. I started way younger though. I am such most have. 21 in the states is like saying Hellen Keller would be good at charades. It is rediculous. Should they change it ? Would that even help ?

Well out here it's 18 to start drinking.. it's a mix of 18 and 19 all over Canada..

I started drinking when I was 14 and dad would buy it for me... doesn't mean it was right..

It wouldn't help in my opinion at all....

It should most definitely be 18 in the US. Making it 21 is just a joke... you can smoke, vote, and die for your country at 18, but you can't drink booze? Give me a break.

I am a bit confused as to why it is 21 in the states. I can't even believe that when I went to the States 12 years ago that I was asked for ID, and I no way looked under 21 then :24:

It's 18 here and 19 where I grew up.. in both places I get carded still... and I just turned 30.

18 was the legal age to drink in the late 70s, and then it was changed just before my mom turned 18. My mom was telling me she had missed it by a few months. You know I'd say yeah if you're old enough to fight for our country your old enough to drink.

It's kinda stupid in the US that we say 18 is mature enough to vote, fight for your country, marry, live alone, start a family, etc etc etc ... but not mature enough to drink a beer.

I went to Boston for a few months au pairing when I was 18, I was pissed off that I'd just turned legal at home but now I was 3 years underage again :mad

But yeah, 21 is ridiculously old imo

I don't drink, but the way I see it is this: if a kid wants to drink; they will find ways to do so - underage or not. Don't know if that's useful to the conversation, but I felt like butting in :p
