Nope, she was born Kate, but the name just doesn't sound "royal" enough :24:

Another question...since her name is Kate, why Catherine? Why not Katherine? :unsure:

Seems Catherine/Katherine/Katie comes from the word Katharos (meaning pure and virginal) I suppose it should be with a K.

EDIT: Wikipedia says

The form Catherine, corresponding with the French version, is also common in English.

So I guess they used it cos it's English?

I think it's hilarious that they have to modify her name at all. If it were me, I'd rebel. That's what they get for letting William marry a commoner.

Well William himself IS a commoner. Only the monarch and the peers are not commoners - their children are commoners. The Queen has not raised William to peerage so he is technically a commoner. William's mother, Diana was a commoner herself (her father was an Earl but she wasn't).

Also, marrying a commoner is nothing new. In 1464 Elizabeth Woodville (commoner) married Edward IV (King).
