I'm talking about bloodlines not titles.Well William himself IS a commoner. Only the monarch and the peers are not commoners - their children are commoners. The Queen has not raised William to peerage so he is technically a commoner. William's mother, Diana was a commoner herself (her father was an Earl but she wasn't).
Also, marrying a commoner is nothing new. In 1464 Elizabeth Woodville (commoner) married Edward IV (King).
