so we make a cheese that the whole world does inferior coppies of and we fail?....interesting
Whose to say the whole worlds cheese is inferior to your country's? Kinda being snotty aren't we? I'm just sayin you fail because unlike France; your country didn't protect your regions properly and everyone has free reign to use the word cheddar.FYI Many small cheese makers in the USA make some great cheddar better than the UK IMO. I've had imported Cheddar.

Cheese Whiz!!

I used to eat that stuff out of the can! Can't stomach the thought now, but one of my dad's friends would bring us each a can every time he came to visit. Brother's favorite was bacon flavored. I think mine was plain...

EDIT: Apparently I've been using the wrong name for YEARS! I always called that stuff cheese whiz.

Well we couldn't get it protected because the region of Cheddar would not be able to make enough Cheddar for the whole world's consumption which is why the EU ruled it could not be protected. But we do have types of Cheese like Stilton which are.

Just out of interest, how many cheeses does the US have protected?

Probably just American which is crap unless paired with a grilled cheese sammy or scrambled eggs.

How can you call American Cheddar food? It tastes like a fucking salt block. You want great cheese you gotta get it from southern Manitoba. Fuck that Wisconsin shit!

California makes the best cheese hands down. It has flavor and we have local wine to go with it

 New Bothwell cheese. Good stuff. :thumbup

And for the record, Velveeta may taste like cheese but it's not cheese. There is no dairy in it.
