I usually just have sex with them.
:24: :24:

Too funny.

Supposedly women don't tip as well as men. But I tip well. 20 to 25% depending on the type of restaurant and how much work the server actually did. More if the person was especially impressive. The server's attitude is also important, as well as how attuned he/she is to what I need, when I need it. I usually like to compliment the server in person before I leave.

A pint of beer (British pint, bigger than American pints) here is about £2.50 on average ($5) Never heard of tipping bar staff before! The best they can expect here is a bloke to buy them a drink and that's if the're a cute barmaid who is being really friendly.:D
I need to move to England.

More details?

Myself, my wife, and my sister-in-law ate at a Bugaboo Creek Steak House one night. The bill was a little over 100.00 we tipped the normal 15% gratuity. When she came back after running the card, she asked if everything was ok with service. We responded "yes everything was fine, why?" She said she was curious because the tip was only 15%, needless to say we spoke to a manager on the way out.

15% is acceptable.
The waitress had obviously played that game before, to try to increase her tips.
Not cool of her. And good that you informed management.

I reckon the whole buisness of tipping has gone wrong, we should just revert to the original way of doing it: the waiter did a good job, give him some money. he didnt do a good job, F him! and the thing with casinos having those shared tips... thats just a sacrelige

Minimum wage here is like almost 7 dollars an hour.... not that much but nowhere near 2 dollars. Where are you living? :D

OH you mean for waiters...
resturants are able to pay waitstaff less than minimum wage because of tips, its not like they are making minimum wage they do depend on tips for their pay.

I remember being at a restaurant in Delaware, Bennigan's to be exact. There was seven of us and we waited over half an hour for our food, my daiquiri's (virgin) ice was not chopped small enough, the waitress was, for lack of better terms, a bitch, she hardly ever checked on us. We had to ask for napkins three times. And the worse part of it all? The tip was included in the bill.

In my personal opinion, especially after an experience like that, tipping should be a decision of the customer based on the waiter/waitresses performance. Under no circumstances should we be ignored and treated badly then forced to tip thopse responsible

That is my opinion.

Experts say that you shouldn't tip bad service. They may get pissed but whats the likeliness that you'll go back?

I usually aim for 10% even if the service isn't great, but decent. Sometimes waiters/waitresses have to tip out kitchen staff and hostesses so I don't want them to LOSE money serving my table.. but if the service is HORRIBLE then I'll leave almost nothing. I keep in mind though that slow food isn't usually the servers fault.

If they do a good job, a solid 20% is standard. And actually, telling the manager how good they did usually is better than an extra couple buck tip. I had a waitress chase me out to the parking lot after I spoke with her manager to thank me because it was her first week serving alone so it really made her stand out. So that was nice to see some people actually appreciate you taking the time to say/tip more rather than just expecting a tip.

hmm tipping

Dining out:
I usually leave a tip regardless of the service. In my mind they are tending to me and the better they tend to my and my table's needs then the more i am willing to compensate for their attention... whether it is their job or not unless you have actually been a bartender or waitress most people will never get it.

I usual tip is 10 percent for shitty service, it also depends on their attitude, if the cook fucks up then, my tipping will be made taking that into consideration...
If the service is decent Ill go 20%, if my glass was never empty, my order was put through correctly, i wasn't harassed about ordering anything else, I was pretty much left alone, while never needing to bug the wait staff for anything i'll consider my dining experience excellent and they will have a good tip coming to them!

Bartenders
If i was treated decently, my drinks were made accordingly and I didnt get to hear the bartender be an ass because "it was too busy", Ill have no problem giving a nice nice tip!

It all comes from working in the business in one way or another for the first few years I was able to work. there are some waiting staff out there that is really shitty, while others just know how to do it right and do it with a smile... knowing how to carry yourself is a big part of waitressing, some people know it some dont other just ignore it... and the latter ones are the ones that usually bitch about their tip.

whew... that was long
