I dunno if i could dine out in Europe. Everything I hear on TV is that tips are automatically included into your dining tab...

I think tipping should be optional everywhere and companies that have employees that work off of tips should just own up and pay them minimum wage or more. Opinions? Objections?

I'm not picky. If I get 'bad' service, it's usually because the wait(er/ress) is extremely busy and I'll still tip well.

I'll tip 50% at times on a smaller bill, and upwards of 20% most of the time.

I live in Europe and have never eaten at a restaurant where tipping is compulsary.:dunno

In England that is definitely the case, you should tip up to 15% if you have received a good service (i read somewhere). I only tip if I get a good service and tend not to tip if the put it in the bill before asking.

Though in France, by law the tip is put on the bill. Tipping a German is offensive. Tipping in Italy is given in a automatic cover charge. Tipping a cow, is wrong. I think every country has its standards. But I would begrudge being forced to pay someone who I didn't feel deserved...

Also I've gotten bitched at in a bar because I don't leave tips. I say if I have to walk my fat ass up to the bar and sit at the stool and all you have to do is pull the tap or had me a bottle then why should i tip you?

I've had bartenders who thought it was beneath them to except less than a dollar tip. You get what I give you and you should be fucking thankful. It's not my fault you wanted this job and your drink prices are jacked up.

Well I think, in most places in the US that the minimum wage right now is around 2.13 and hour and that isn't shit. Now, I believe that I am pretty good at serving tables, I make between 30-40% all day, but some people just don't tip as well as others. I can relate with most people, but there are the select few, that just can't~. So on that note, 15% isn't that bad really, at least the poor guy gets something at the end of the day.

Minimum wage here is like almost 7 dollars an hour.... not that much but nowhere near 2 dollars. Where are you living? :D

A pint of beer (British pint, bigger than American pints) here is about £2.50 on average ($5) Never heard of tipping bar staff before! The best they can expect here is a bloke to buy them a drink and that's if the're a cute barmaid who is being really friendly.:D

Yeah, you do get exceptions, a lot of beer festivals I go to, the average pint is nearer £2 a pint. Weatherspoons always have really cheap offers. Orange house here were even once as standard selling XXXX for 50p a pint! Also living in the South East, it's more expensive here than other parts of the country, on average.
