Even if time travel were possible, you couldn't change the past, because it already happened. Time travelers actions would have been accounted for in the passage of time.

This is the one that catches most people out, it is not possible to alter the past. Mind you without breaking this golden rule, most time travel movies & stories would be totally lame.

I believe it's theoritcally possible, although someone who knows more about the Space/Time continuim could explain better than I.

I think we have a tendency to overthink things. I believe time travel is impossible because time is immutable. You cannot go forward in time because it haasn't happened yet, and you cannot go back in time be cause it already happened

perhaps we dont understand time, we created minutes , hours, days to measure the passage of the days..

perhaps we got it wrong, and its a lot bigger ;)

Time is a concept. Like distance, it was created as a way to relate with the matter/no matter relationship of existence

time is relative; so is distance. therefore, velocity is relative.

it should be possible, progressing einstein's theory of relativity.

Now many people will say its absolutely impossible, but is it really?

If a device was invented, could you go back further than the day the device was created? I mean, it didnt exist before the day you had it? could this mean you can only go forwards?

we move through time now, forwards very slowly, cant this be manipulated? personally Im gonna invent the time machine sometime in the future, then send the plans back here, that way, I dont need to do any work...

cheers

GO...

The only problem with that is if u invented it in the future only to send it to the past then ur past self wouldnt create it meaning that u never got it meaning that ur future self created it and in short u have a paradox.

I think that we can slow time, we can stop time, it is malleable to that extent, but to actually turn back time is not possible in the dynamics and restrictions of physics, I feel...

as well as even if possible anything u do in the past wont work heres an example:

U go back in time to stop hittler but since u stopped hitler in the past u never went back in time to stop him because he never happened but then he did because u didnt go back in time because u had already gone back in time but u hadnt.

See.

except you have to realize, that when you go back in time, and change something, your future self does not exist in the same capacity anymore; therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to do such a thing.

however, you must also realize that this type of situation will occur many times; this is the ethical portion of what someone else has said; being that many people will be changing the future by going into the past.

so, whether or not it is possible, time travel will most likely not happen, due to possible consequences.

^ You are right, the actual implications of actions means that the resulting paradox will melt my mind. I think the universe will make sure we can't go back in time, and if we can, we ARE NOT sending Jean Claude Van Damme!

but instead of a time machine y dont u just take out a step and find a way to go to a different plane of existence for instence one in which watever u wanted to happen or not happen in the past did or didnt happen. thus getting rid of the paradox.

Ah, shifting dimensions, now we are getting complicated... :surrender

If people ever invented time machines, wont we be seeing people from the future?

No because it was invented in a different dimmension which means that until we travel to the dimmension in which it was created then we wont see them. plus they have those flashy forgety thingys like on MIB
