Three Butterflies
Three butterflies,
Flying among the flowers in a meadow,
White, yellow, and red.
Boom! Flash!
Thunder, lightning, rain,
Breaking all the peace and quiet.
Three butterflies,
Landing on a red tulip,
Asked if they could go in her petals.
“I will only let the red butterfly in, for she is a beautiful red like me.”
“No thank you,”
The red butterfly said after some thinking,
“For we will not be together,
And if we are not together,
We are not strong.”
The three butterflies flew away and landed on a yellow daffodil.
“Please shelter us from the rain.”
“I will only shelter the yellow butterfly, for she has the same bold yellow.”
The yellow butterfly replied,
“No, thank you.
We will always stay together in order to stay strong.”
The three butterflies flew away,
Landing on a white dahlia, they asked,
“Please protect us from the rain.”
“I will only protect the white butterfly, for she has the same pure white as me.”
The white butterfly said, “No, thank you, but we will still stay together to be strong.”
The sun,
Hiding behind the heavy rainclouds,
Had heard what each butterfly and flower had said.
Smiling, she said,
“Each of us is wonderful, but together we are diverse and strong.”
Sunlight filled the meadow,
And warmed up the exhausted butterflies.
Three butterflies
Flew happily together,
Once more.
