When it comes to milking any event for viewership the media will always do so. I blame the them. I do not compare what happened on 9/11 to the Holocaust, the numbers don't add up and at least those people didn't suffer as long. But it was a tragedy and I will alway remember it. Most of us weren't alive during the Holocaust but were alive ten years ago. And it shocks me to hear the PD and Fire Department weren't allowed there. For shame.

You have the right to your opinion. I would not consider what you said as insensitive. Seems like though this is how the media goes about it on most anything anymore.

Having said that...... I have a few things to add.....

1. What they have done to the twin tower sight is amazing. Not so fond of the new building but the grounds and water fall memorial are perfect.

2. Watched a show on tv last night which was a documentary two guys did. That was some outstanding work there which they did that just was a matter of coincidence.

3. To not allow the NY FD and PD at the memorial yesterday was UTTER BULL FUCKING Shit !!!!!!!!! Shame on all involved that shut them out.
I heard this was bullshit perpetuated online and absolutely not true.

Firefighters, police and port authority personnel were not invited to the 9/11 opening day, that is true. Sunday was reserved for the families of the victims. They would not have been able to accommodate another 3000 people.
Sunday was ALL about the families of the victims, and that includes the families of the fallen firefighters, police and port authority victims.

They are inviting all of the firefighters, police and port authority people on a separate occasion.

The only thing that annoys me is the attitude from a lot of Americans on this site. This wasn't an American tragedy, it was a global tragedy. Yet when I started up a thread about the 7/7 attacks in London which was also global - lack of interest from people and even people saying they had never heard of it.
I still think 9/11 was terrible and tribute is well deserved to it without political agenda but please dont forget tragedies that happened off USA soil too.
On a personal note - R.I.P. 9/11 victim - Simon Percy Maddison, a guy from my town of Harlow and a good friend of one of my friends.

I spent the day in my shop working on my lawn tractor. The anniversary of the attacks was always at the back of my mind. I though of the families and friends who were still missing someone. Did it change how I spent a normal Sunday? No, it did not. This was my time to reflect and to give my own respects.

I was super proud after I picked my kids up from school and they told me how they were able to talk about the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and how they were pretty much the only kids in class that knew about it. I spent part of the day watching the memorial/documentaries they had on. It was heartbreaking and very interesting at the same time. I am not one who would rather not hear about it. I was not bothered by the amount that it was talked about or shown.

Seriously? you are going to bring up political partisan bullshit where it doesn't belong? You do realize this is nothing more that "Don't build that mosque on ground zero" bullshit. There is absolutely no outrage to be had here...
Show me how I made it political Tim. For fucks sake the damn PD and FD sacrificed just as much as the civilians. It only is political in the respect that my understanding was the mayor had the say in this. If I am wrong on that then I am wrong. Either way the guy is a twat for being utterly insensitive to the first responders. Because he should have had a say in their being included

It's political because of the fucking source and the intent of the story. And if you didn't even bother to look into the details or care about who started this crap, then there isn't much I can help you with. Just live your little lemming life and fall for every manufactured outrage that comes down the pike...

as someone who is a FF/paramedic the anniversary always brings sadness to me. the families and loved ones of all involved, as well as all the military that is still continuing to fight. i look at it as an attack on US soil, just like OK City bombing. i do agree that the media coverage was too much. i however chose to watch cartoon network or do homework instead of dwelling on it.

2. Watched a show on tv last night which was a documentary two guys did. That was some outstanding work there which they did that just was a matter of coincidence.

Not sure if you're talking about the same one, but I have a documentary done by 2 French (I think that's right) brothers who just happened to be doing a documentary on FDNY when everything happened. It's a great piece.

I have to admit that I, as well as many other Americans (note I said "many other" before anybody gets their panties in a wad, LOL), are very self-centered when it comes to things like that. I knew about the attacks and thought it was horrible, but I didn't actively seek out more information after the initial story.

As for 9/11...I think for a lot of people this is the biggest tragedy that they've seen in their lifetime and that's why it is the way it is. For so long I think we thought that things like that couldn't or wouldn't happen here...and that day proved us wrong. For my own sanity I did have to turn off the TV yesterday. I can only cry so much...and at some point I just can't stand to watch anymore. But if anybody gets the chance to watch "102 minutes that changed America" that they've been playing on the History Channel the past few days, it's got some really good footage.

That was the show was referring to Natasha. The strange part is I swear they had aired some of that some time ago. But the scenes inside Tower 1 I do not recall. I taped it when it started not thinking I would watch the entire show but it was so well done I never turned it off.

and what source would that be? It is a fact they were not invited.

So all of a sudden CBS news is a right wing apologist network eh?

Here's the deal. 9/11 is a day that went down in history, just like the rest of the horrific tragedies that took place before our time, and, we STILL hear about them... see footage on TV, etc.

I imagine with each anniversary that passes, we will be reminded.

Life has been, and will continue to be interrupted with the events.

I have that documentary on DVD, too. The story of "Tony" the probie. It really is an incredible documentary.

You are right in that it aired quite some time ago. I watched it on one of the larger networks (I'm thinking NBC but not sure on that) and saw it released in Wal-mart quite some time later and jumped at the chance to buy it b/c it was so good.

It really is. The scene that sticks w/ me, besides the 1 brother waiting to find out if the other brother is still alive, is when they run inside the coffee shop (I think it was a coffee shop) and you just see the entire area go dark b/c of the dust cloud that is coming down.

If it makes you feel any better they do the same kind of thing with any big celebrity issue going on. Michael Jackson's death, Tiger Woods's cheating... all kinds of stuff gets over-publicized. Just the way of American TV.
