Alas, it'll turn out to be a disaster and UEFA will be red.

See, I think more likely it will be a big success. There aren't many England fans there so crime is automatically halved.

There's probably a racist element in both Poland and Ukraine, but more so than here? Probably about the same.

lol.gif so true.

I think Ukraine is worse, because they're blindly defending the problem, such as the policeman. "They weren't giving Nazi salutes, they were pointing to their team"

From watching the other documentary about this on Sky, the Ukrainians have it in their head that England is still the pinnacle of hooliganism, when that's not true now, just the small minority of idiots.

The Polish weren't that bad, I mean the documentary largely magnified the problem by going to the two main cities, whereas the rest really isn't that bad at all. It's kinda like if they did the documentary here and only going to Manchester and London, ignoring the rest. I know someone who lives in Poland, and he seems to think the general perception from the likes of England is that Poland is a third world country, when it isn't.

It was unpleasant to watch in areas, but a documentary about English football over the last 12 months would look pretty fucking bad if you focused on the worst parts of it for half an hour. I'm sure you could find a few similar views about Tottenham as a Jewish club, and a few extreme right wing views or hooliganism if you went to Chelsea, Luton or Millwall.

Conclusion being that while this is a problem still, it's not like it's exclusive to this part of the world. Like I said, you could give anyone a camera and ask them to film the worst parts for half an hour and make a documentary about it. If you went to Bilbao you'd get plenty of anti-Spanish talk, ditto Catalonia. Italy you'd get it somewhere, Portugal, England. Racism/hooliganism happens everywhere, it's just that is isn't something that's ever really talked about to any great length.

It really does make me half glad that Wales didn't qualify. I'm glad our fans aren't going out there and I already feel sorry for the players on the pitch. I would encourage each and every one of them to walk off the pitch if they are getting any abuse.

Indeed Italy has some sizable problems with football hooliganism and organised crime, particularly in the south; to add to your valid points.

Remember also; don't believe everything you read in the papers. I'm not saying there is no racism in Poland/Ukraine, clearly there is some, but the media has been exploiting this story for all it's worth, and idiots like Sol Campbell ("you'll all come home in body-bags") aren't helping.

Yeah it's clearly been sensationalized like you say by the usual suspects. It exists, we all know that, but never to the level they say. Ladbrokes are even taking bets over whether the tournament will finish, of course it will, people need to stop being thick.

platini has said he has given refs the authority to call games and walk off the filed if there is abuse

seems ot me that is a direct challenge to the idiots out there, they will test that I am sure, especially when they know that there is no time to reschedule

And yet I heard that he's also given the ref's permission to book players if they walk off the pitch because of the racism. :\

You think the racists and hooligans care if the match is called off? They'd see that as a victory.

what happened to innocent until proven guilty?

In JT's case; we can make an exception. :p
Even if JT gets off, that doesn't make him innocent, just that it couldn't be proven to the standards of a civil court. :p

Exactly, they aren't there for the football games. In fact a lot of hooligans believe it or not aren't even football fans, they just use football as a thing to jump on to have a fight or abuse players/people (usually both) because of the history of it. I even know for a fact that Basque nationalists once went to a Spain game just to boo the national anthem, and then left en masse. So I don't actually agree with the referee stopping the game for this (if it happens, I'm not necessarily sure it will) because then they would win, and it ruins the game for the vast majority.

The thing that wasn't really shown on the news about these Dutch players being abused....it was 25,000 fans there watching, and the abuse came from about 30 people (nowhere near the 500 that was reported) who were quickly condemned, by their fellow Poles in some cases. But anything to boost the "fucking racist cunts" agenda I guess. I'm not defending it by any means, but it wasn't as bad as reported.
