This hurts!

So last night I totally biffed it while trying to walk up some really steep cement. I knew my flip flops wouldn't like it lol. It beat up my arm quite a bit. Well, anyways, today it is hurting. Which, of course is to be expected. But the bone doesn't feel right in there. It seems more bulged out compared to the other one. It doesn't seem too swollen, but I've been icing it all day and right now have an ice pack strapped to it. I want any swelling down to be able to tell if I fractured it. I don't want to rush into the doc to find out there's too much swelling lol.
But dang it's annoying. My arm is super weak and hurts to bend.

Damn I swear I'm jinxed for life. I just can't get away from injuring myself. I would like a break. :ninja

So anyways. Lets hope it's not broke or fractured. I don't want to be in a sling or cast. I haven't had to wear one since I was 10 and don't want that to change lol.

Sounds painful! If you have insurance..... why suffer?

If you don't.... I totally understand wanting to wait.

I have really good insurance. But bones can be a tricky thing. It could be a contusion that I'm feeling or it could just be the fluid from swelling. So I don't want to go in right away and them not be able to tell. I'm thinking if it still feels weird to the touch tomorrow and hurts as well as bending not being normal I will go in while the boys are in school.

Owwww...

:homo: can you do a sling?

I could probably use a scarf for now lol. I just want to not atleast try to stretch it a little because then it gets way too stiff and hurts even more to bend.

I didn't think about wrigging up a sling tho. I've just kept it propped and bend to a comfortable position for most of the day.

Good thinking. That might help bring down swelling more so I can maybe tell better what's wrong.

It would be the fourth time I've broke/fractured my arm you'd think I'd have thought about the sling already haha.

You icing it and immobilizing it with a sling/scarf are great interventions :D:thumbup

You dont need to wait for swelling to subside b4 you go see a doctor. The swelling is your clue that there's really something wrong going on that area which only a doctor's assessment and Xray will confirm. You can aggravate the dislocation if there's any with you postponing to go see an MD. Juz a suggestion of course ;)

Hope you feel better soon :)

It's true I don't have to wait, but I am. It's harder for the doctors to see if there is a fracture or break when there is a bunch of swelling. And since I'm not dying in pain I figure I can suffer another day just so I don't waste a visit and end up being told I have to wait til the swelling goes down before they will be able to tell for sure.

I do respect what you decide on of course but I do think you're misled. The more swelling there is- the more reason for you to go see a doctor bcoz of the potential of aggravating your injury.

Swelling is the body's defense mechanism to tell anyone that there's definitely something wrong there. of course I do understand that you say it's harder for the doctors to see but that's from a layman's perspective and not a sound medical advise for that matter. When there's swelling is when the MD is able to actually appreciate you showing them the injury over an aggravated injury or a more dislocated bone :(

It's not up to the doctor even to see about the fracture hence the Xray is there to confirm. The MD i do think doesn't have xray vision for that matter but just palpation and eyesight /visual assessment is all he can provide for you besides giving you something to help you be eased up from the pain. Sorry, just explaining from a medical perspective.

But aye you're right, just as long as you continue icing it and immobilizing it's only a few hours b4 tomorrow and you can visit the MD. Good luck ;)
