so.. for those of you that don't know-- i work for children with autism and there's drama going on with the schoo district.. they want to take one of the kids out of our program to stick him in a HORRIBLE school that would sooo not be beneficial to him (all to save a buck) anyway---- as a backup i've been working on other options in case im out of a job shortly... i took the state probation officer's so now im on the list for that and a while back i applied for a job in NYC working at this AMAZING school for children with autism-- 2 totalllllllly different careers i know.. but the school wasn't really hiring when i applied-- i got in on a recommendation...

WELL WELL WELL.... i get a call TODAY from the school in NYC for an interview... and here's the dilemma...

i can start there within a month... (pending one other child that's starting)
it starts at part time with some random training workshops that they will send me off to... BUTTTTTT i would double-triple what i make now... there's no guarantee when i would actually be full time...

if i tell the family i am working with now that i am going there... i may have to give up my job (although id still like to work with him part time-- it may be a conflict in scheduling) but im not guaranteed full time right off the bat... sooo....

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??? :dunno

im no good when it comes to big decisions because they usually backfire BIG TIME and then id be jobless :tard

heather, I comend you for working with autistic kids! Its one hell of a hard job (austin is autistic). If you could swing both, then do it.. but if there is a chance that you cant give that second child enough time, then move on and let someone else work with him. My son doesnt do so well with change, like most autistic kids. So it maynot be that benefitial to that child if you were to do both.. I :dunno . I hope this makes sense because I am just waking up...

i don't do well with making big decisions for people so i won't say either, although the opportunity that you have sounds wonderful and beneficial as well. i'm sure you'll make the right decision and good luck with whatever you chose, i'm sure it'll turn out great for you.

soo... i got a call today from the school in manhattan... ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND

excited?

get excited!

I HAVE MY INTRO TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :award :cheer :yahoo

they're gonna give me the summer schedule (after memorial day) of the list of kids that will be starting fresh and the ones that will need some extra work... so basically... the job is mine if i want it-- gonna go over specifics on tuesday... and ill mak emy decision after that...

ALSO-- spoke to my current boss-- and they weren't totally pissed like i thought they would be... they were a little upset, because they think im gonna quit (and they love me :yahoo )but i assured them that im not gonna leave them screwed... so ill keep ya posted and let ya know how things turn out on tuesday ... keep ya fingers crossed :jig

:D i am a member of the rare breed who actually likes their job.. crazy part is-- i literally fell into the field by accident... i wsa doing speech pathology... and i had an intern kinda thing... practicum where i had to work with different cases etc.. one of my kids had autism and need help with her speech... so after i was done interning her parents offered me some hours working with her and her twin sister.. and then they introduced me to some other families.. and so that's that.... ive been doing it since sophomore year of college.. .and now i wouldnt know how to do anything else-- cuz the worst feeling is waking up in the morning DREADING work...
now mnd you--- im NOOOO kinda morning person.. but at least when im up-- i can look forward to my day... ookkk :blah :blah im rambling :D

It might be rambling but it was a pretty ramble.

I admire people who work with kids partly because I think I should have been a teacher, & sometimes I regret missing out, but also I think kids are great - you can totally mess with their minds while they're busy messing with yours.
