The World Cup Thread

Football, also known as gridiron or American football outside the U.S. and Canada, attracts more television viewers[1] than baseball (although baseball attracts significantly more ticket sales due to its much longer schedule) and is considered the most popular sport in the United States by most. Despite being almost entirely male, it has the most participants of any sport at both high school[2] and college (NCAA)[3] levels.

The sideline refs missed a few offsides too I reckon
AND...where was Harry?

I stayed up all night till 4:20 in the morning to watch that, and my team (aussies) just didn't turn up to play, but that whole game was ageist us, we were playing one of the best teams as well as the ref. I think we won't be making it again this time. *Face Palm*

By the youth, yes. It's kind of odd that given that soccer isn't more popular as a professional sport. It's even a red-headed step child of hockey which isn't nearly as popular in the states as it is in Canada. Though, thanks to Sid and Alex, it's popularity is starting to grow a bit.

and our own little cheering section of OTZ, we try to spread good will towards all unbelievers

isn't proper football the most played sport in america?

and our own little cheering section of OTZ, we try to spread good will towards all unbelievers

True and correct! :thumbup

Kind of funny though. The soccer I watch mostly would be EPL and Championship League. So, most of the players I watch regularly and root for are definitely not playing for the US team...but I root for the US team in world play. Kind of like rooting for the US in Olympic hockey, but the majority of my favorite players are not US players. Bit bipolar really...

As I was saying to Cammy, Football ( Soccer ) in Canada is extremely popular for kids.. It's getting to the point where you cannot get your kids in to a team unless you start them in diapers and never take them out. In fact it is out pacing hockeys where I am by a large margin and the fields are growing daily and often filled with teams or kids.. Watch out world, our FIFA team is going to make it soon.,. :D
