I know it's not accepted by all paleontologists and after watching a load of shows on what we speculate lived back before, during and after the dinosaurs. I'd like to know how probable it is that if a meteor did kill off most living creatures than why are some species still thriving today?

Most likely because the animals that survived were more capable of adapting than the Dinosaurs. The Dinos (and most of the life on Earth), were unable to take that kind of climate change, but there were some that could. That's probably about how it went down.

Don't you know? It was the flood which killed them off, when Noah was loading up the ark, he just didn't fancy having dinosaurs on board!

if I remember rightly, the initial change can be adapted to easily, but when things get back to normal, it's to much o a change physiologically, and the animals can't do it (one theory I heard)

when the meteorite hit earth was a hell hole with most species struggling......volcanoes were erupting everywhere making the air hard to breath......so why did some species survive the meteorite?.......simple really,size and habitat........i'll emphasize the living dinosaurs,the crocodillians..........they can go over a year without food.......when it hit and the searing winds swept the earth they'd simply have sunk to the bottom of what ever body of water they inhabited.......occasionally surfacing for air....the same could be said for the evolving mammals of the time...they were burrowers,so they'd simply have dug in
