OK Singapore is nowhere in that list.
Freedom of the press has declined for the eighth year in a row, according to Freedom House’s annual report. And while the media has focused on the lack of media freedoms in such places as China and Venezuela, they’ve virtually ignored the U.S. position – No. 24 (PDF).
And following in the footsteps of the Bush Administration, the Obama Administration seems intent on making the media less free.

WoW, Singapore, now that's really low. We all know it's the best place in the world to live so it's really bewildering... ;)

Now read this article. We will hit below the belt and what can you guys do abt it?
People like me are tired of the government of Singapore threatening to sue for any fair comments that journalists make when penning an article.
The government of Singapore is yet to lose any libel suit it has brought against the foreign media group or the opposition politician.
Unnecessary libel and defamation suits are an impediment to free expression and silences dissent.
It is but Singaporeans who will lose out where there is no free expression or dissent.
The leaders of the government of Singapore should stop using defamation and libel suits to ascertain their imagined moral authority to govern and instead, should let fair comment and supposed insinuations roll off like water off a duck’s back.

Wow, you're sick and tired of it? Big freaking deal. You're not doing anything, just complaining. Doesn't change the fact that the US is 127 places ahead of Singapore. Yet once again you choose to come up with something to try and bash the US on, even when your own country is significantly less free by these standards.

As usual, you guys always think of it as bashing. The only interesting news is from USA be it negative, positive or bashing. I have nothing to talk abt Singapore cuz its a boring city.

Kelvin I'm sensing some jealousy....
Honestly nothing to be jealous abt. If US does well its gain for singaporeans. US first quarter GDP growth of 3.2% fueled Singapore's growth of 13.5% this quarter.

Interesting to see the UK relatively high-up on the list at position 26.... I would've thought it would be further down given the ridiculous nature of UK libel laws.

Isn't suing an American way of life? Looks like Singapore is copying us! ;)

My understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, is that the Singapore government is using suing as a means of squelching dissent from any source by way of a stacked court that does it's bidding. Makes you think twice about speaking up when you know you'll lose. This is a example of pure corruption.

Prolly passed on it out of fear of getting sued by their own government.

Cute little bit of minor trivia: the organization that publishes the list is based out of the US.

I'm sure a Singaporean thought of it first, though. Prolly passed on it out of fear of getting sued by their own government.

Like I mentioned earlier we will hit below the belt. Don't think just cuz you are based in US you can't be punished by our local laws. You mess with us, you will pay the price.
A foreign news organisation has yet again been forced to apologise to you and your father and pay you a large sum of money for publishing an article you did not like. This time it is the New York Times Co. that is a victim of this double punishment because of a compliant judicial system that always rules in favour of you and your family in all the lawsuits you bring against foreign news media.
Before the New York Times Co., you succeeded in punishing the Far Eastern Economic Review (FEER), FinanceAsia.com, The Economist, International Herald Tribune and Asian Wall Street Journal for their coverage of the political and economic situation in your country.
